WOW & Vista

Has anyone had issues installing Wow on a computer runing Vista? I had a horrible time getting it on... I set it to run with a older version of Windows (or something that I read online....) the stupid box kept popping up and asking me if i was sure. Well after a few attempts it finally installed properly. But now it says it can't apply the patch so it wont boot.

Anyone have any ideas?

Hi Snuggs,

Question. Did you recently download WoW from their site? Or are you using the disc that came with a box that you bought at a store?

I downloaded WoW from their site, and WoW installed and ran great for me on Vista. There may be a different version between the two, not only for the game... but the Windows installer that installs the game.

Also did you try installing the game by right clicking the install icon, and on the context menu clicking Run As Administrator? Also the Windows security settings, or security software (AV/AS/etc.) may be tightened down too much for an install.

You shouldn't have to run WoW in compatibility mode on Vista (unless it is an older CD version of WoW).

I used all 6 CD's, plus the 2 for BC

It took FOREVER and mutliple tries. I'm going to try to dl'd it from the website now. How do I turn or tweak that security up?

No prob Snuggs.

Actually just long enough to do the install, I would turn the security off... then turn it back on if WoW installs like it should.

Also make sure your Windows User Account is set to Administrator, not Standard. And right click on the install icon, and click Run As Administrator just to be sure.

No, those are all stored in her e-mail account, which takes up 90% of the yahoo database memory. No concern for her PC though.

Snuggs, when I ran WoW on a Vista machine it was the Run as Administrator thing that Nok mentioned that made the difference.
