Vista driver for iMac ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro?

This is a needle in a haystack, I realize, since most people here are PC folks, but just in case...

I've got the 20" iMac with the 2.4GHz processor and 256MB ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro graphics. I use Boot Camp to dual-boot Windows Vista on the iMac, so that I can play UO.

The graphics driver that came with Boot Camp is unstable under Vista. The crashing that I experience is widely reported. I've tried several other ATI drivers at the advice of others reporting this problem, and have had no luck.

If anybody has had this problem and found drivers that worked, please let me know!

My system is completely stable when running OS X (Leopard), but under Vista, the graphics driver quits and causes the whole system to blue screen and crash.

Re: Vista driver for iMac ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro?

Are you talking about the Windows under Boot Camp drivers or for OSX? Apple release the OSX drivers themselves, either in OSX point updates or graphics updates that are delivered via Software Update. There's a major update to 10.5 Leopard imminent which is rumoured to include the latest 2600Pro drivers.

For Windows under Boot Camp you should be able to get them off the ATI site.

Re: Vista driver for iMac ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro?

Windows under Boot Camp...

I did get that fix on the OS X side, though luckily I hadn't been experiencing instability prior.

My instability is under Windows, and while I am currently running drivers from the ATI web site, the problem seems to be in properly identifying which drivers to use. According to Apple's tech specs for the video card, it's the ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro. However, Windows doesn't detect it as that card and I've had to manually force Windows to use that driver. (It is more stable than the drivers that Boot Camp installed, but still does crash occasionally).

The general argument on the Apple support forums is which ATI drivers are the right drivers. Some think it's one of the Mobility chipsets, though I couldn't get those drivers to run AT ALL. Others say that the ATI card in the iMac is some tiny bit proprietary and different from the stock ATI cards, requiring specific drivers from Apple (even though we're talking about running under Windows here).

I've just about thrown my hands in the air on this one. If only I could run UO under OS X, life would be blissful!
