Five-seat concept car runs on air

An engineer has promised that within a year he'll start selling a car that runs on compressed air, producing no emissions at all in town.

The OneCAT will be a five-seater with a glass fibre body, weighing just 350kg and could cost just over £2,500($5,000) It will be driven by compressed air stored in carbon-fibre tanks built into the chassis.
The tanks can be filled with air from a compressor in just three minutes - much quicker than a battery car. Alternatively, it can be plugged into the mains for four hours and an on-board compressor will do the job.

Re: Five-seat concept car runs on air

That's pretty cool! I'd be a little worried about the safety issue tho. The article says the biggest risk is to the ears due to the sound if the air tanks split. Still, how does the body hold up if you are in a wreck?

The chasis is a tubular design like the F1 racing cars. Also if everyone were driving these cars I guess it wouldnt matter if another fibreglass car hit you

Re: Five-seat concept car runs on air

350kg? Wouldn't a slight breeze toss you off the road? Not to mention the powerful gusts associated with getting your doors blown off by a semi? I love the concept, but would be a bit leery of the super-light body. Maybe it's just me...

That car is pretty cool! I hope they keep coming out with these sort of cars until we get one that will be affordable and easy to use by all consumers. Less pollution is good all around

Good concept, too light, equipment isn't there yet to make it completely safe against itself yet, but it's a good step.
