Eek a dead mouse!

It's time to go shopping for a new mouse. The IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0A USB and PS2 Compatible that I've grown accustomed to has finally cursed it's last pixel today. What would you wise folks recommend for a fair priced replacement? I'm using a really ancient rodent in the meantime...not even a scrollwheel and just 2 buttons...AHHHHH!

Mmmm cheese is good. Starving for a working optical mouse, but don't want a cordless...hates having the batteries go out while hunting, or being hunted.

Re: Eek a dead mouse!

Self charging critter sounds wickedly good. The Logitech MX310 looks close to my previous mouse in function. Goint to check out some shops in town to see how they fit in hand. Is Newegg a better buy than an in-store purchase?

Re: Eek a dead mouse!

Usually you'll get much better pricing from Newegg than a local brick & mortar store. Newegg also has a huge selection and ships from the nearest stocked warehouse. Shipping is reasonable too, with gasoline prices what they are nowadays... shipping is about the same as driving around looking for what you want & picking it up.

Of course buying a new mouse is like a lot of things... sometimes you need to try it out for size and feel. How it glides. The feel of the buttons & wheels. Weight. If the display models at the store haven't been trashed already.

Another tip, check out the customer reviews on Newegg no matter where you buy the mouse. That way you can read other user's opinions of the mice you're considering.

Newegg usually has the best daily pricing... but Buy.com and TigerDirect also has some great deals and specials too. I always check all three.

Re: Eek a dead mouse!

I tend to stick with Logitech, they tend to be built rather well.
My current mouse is the Laser G5, which is purrrrdy
I to, dislike Cordless.

Re: Eek a dead mouse!

I agree with Adam, I usually go with Logitech's myself... they seem to last ages for me.

Re: Eek a dead mouse!

Respectful of wisemen (Adam and Nok), I couldn't go wrong and got the Laser G5 from Best Buy ($20 cheaper than from another chain store) yesterday. Price, good reviews, and purported longevity influenced my purchase. This mouse is the Cat's Meow! Spent an hour fiddling with settings, initially had the cursor speed accelerated and flying off the playscreen with barely any movement of the mouse. Reset at lower settings were still smoother and faster than what I was accustomed to, but I am getting in the groove now and while in declining health, not trying to double click the far edge of the screen instead of my bandaids. Thanks for your advice, folks. *while the cat's away, this mouse rules play*
