I cannot afford Anti Virus or Ad-Aware programs im that broke so here is what Im dealing with!!!

The current version of AVG Free has both virus and spyware checkers. I've used AVG free for years and would highly recommend it.

Ack! Gareth! Don't run that. Run AVG. Run anything but that. You my friend are the person I wrote the UO Toolbar for. Everything you need to get rid of that stuff, for FREE... is in the Safety menu of the UO Toolbar.

If nothing else, at least go read this post here on UO Forums about free security software. Please!

another quick help for you might be to make a folder on your desktop and stick all those zip and install files in it as you wont ever use them again unless you need to reinstall something. And use these clean-up links they do work....run avg it also helps alot!

My advice, if a pc is infected that badly? Wipe it
Start from scratch, it's the sure fire way of making sure everything is gone

Try scanning with the free versions of AVG, adaware and spybot search & destroy. Depending on how tricky your infections all are, some may be too stubborn and need special treatment. Reboot after you think it's clean and see if anything manages to re-install itself. There are some very very stubborn malware programs out there.

Once you think you're clear, you can then get a program called Hijack this. It'll save info from your system and there are several forums where experienced folks can check your hijack this output and verify that nothing nasty is left.

Then I'll repeat the advice I was given when I got a bad malware infection - replace Internet Explorer with your choice of Firefox, Opera or basically *anything* but IE. I spent about 8 hours clearing up my puter after some bad adverts got loose on my system, courtesy of that other forum site heh. Just changing out IE cut the infections I was catching with adaware to virtually nothing.

Just to be on the safe side, once you've cleaned up the system, make it a priority to get any important files backed up, if you haven't already.

If you do ever have the option of putting a wee bit of cash into protecting the PC, Kapersky have a fantastic all round internet security package and it's very cost effective. £20 or so a year to upgrade and maintain an annual sub is well worth it IMO. That covers firewall, antivirus, spyware and a few other goodies. Or get virtually the same thing from Steganos.

It may be worth going through your general internet security settings too, just to ensure you have a sturdy defense as you can really undermine any security packages by leaving your browser open to all heh.
