Raki is more or less the Turkish equivalent of Ouzo.
Like lots of Turkish non-islam related dishes/customs are ripoffs of the Greek ones or visa versa.

Still, it's a good drink, depending on how you take it.
You can either drink it pure (as I think all men should) or water it down with... water, which means it has a bit more of a menthol taste and doesn't burn away your intestants as much.

Also, the store bought stuff is generally about 40% alc. while the home made brew tends to go up to 70-80%.
