Mariah TheBlack Rose

Mariah sat at table in the dark corner of the Just Inn. Heals propped up on the table, a decanter of rum and a clean glass, or as clean one could get in a place like this. Miserable place this she thought to herself, missing the fresh air of the ocean.

A young boy of about 15 came in through the front door looking around as if seeking someone. Once he saw Mariah he carefully moved towards her. “Ye be Black Rose?” He asked.

Mariah looked up at him “and who may it be who seeks the Black Rose. And what thinks you to take me for the Black Rose? ”

The young boy shifted uncomfortably from one foot to the other, “Miss, I not but a messenger, I bring you a message from one in Buc’s Den. She told me of you and where to find you?” As he handed her a parchment.

Mariah took the parchment and broke the seal. Glancing down at the signature “ Why my ole friend .”

She reached in her pocket and pulled out several pieces of gold, “Here boy. Did anybody follow you here?”

“No miss. I made sure I did, came alone.” He answered.

Mariah looked up at him again and nodded, “Be off with ya now.” The young boy quickly made for the door.

Mariah sat up and leaned to light the table lamp so she could read the letter. Her eyes following every word written.

She had heard the rumors of Margrave being slain by the murderous Galen Knighthawk. Such a pity it was Margrave was gone, her being one of the finest in all the lands. And now the murderous Galen has his filthy hands on some of her personal belongings and worst of all one of the main VTC merchant ships.

Mariah laid the parchment on the table and drew her knife slamming it deep into the table, pinning the letter down.

“Galen Knighthawk.” She laughed out loud.

Mariah walked down the hall and opened up door to a room where a man was snoring away. She went over and kicked the bed.

“Jake, fetch the crew, its time to go home.”
