Talking NPCs, Bounties, Guarding NPCs

Remember when you could have keyword conversations with NPCs?

They would respond to phrases and words and you could actually have a roleplayed conversation with them.

I miss that!

The vets will remember this :
Player : "Trudy, how's your sex life?"
NPC Trudy "Fine, thank you"

But just general directions too, you used to be able to ask townguards directions to the nearest [insert shoptype here].

Bounties! I want to be able to turn in heads again and ask NPCs about the whereabouts of notirious NPCs. Read the bulletinboard at Britain bank to see what bounties were posted.

Perhaps they could make the tracking skill more useful that if combined with an accepted bounty you could track down players.

NPCs guarding stuff in private houses!
(first they will have that f*cked up bit where you cannot enter private houses, that is in my opinion the WORST thing they ever did to UO)
Remember when you entered a random home in (at the time) Felucca to use a forge or spinningwheel? There may have been an NPC there that had been set to guard that item.

At first the NPC would say "Please don't touch that".
Keep at it though and the NPC would attack you! It was a classic!
You could even have NPCs guard a pile of gold or your own front door!


NPCs should be made relevant again, I greatly miss the interaction that could be had with them and they could be made into so much more than just random filler.

Tell me one thing (not counting the people who have the begging skill), if there were no blue* NPCs in the towns, would it even remotely affect your gameplay?
The general answer would be, no, it wouldn't.
Because as it stands, they just don't add anything but atmosphere.

*General plebs, no quest givers, no shopkeepers, they just sit around to make a town look sort of... populated.

I miss the talking NPCs the most...
It was really amazing, also the directions were incredibly useful... and much more pleasant than having to use UOAutoMap, for isntance...

(Note: UOAM is great, but getting directions from an NPC added a touch of reality that no other game has)

First poster pretty much hit em all. Course Most of the current changes I hate tremendously. I hate how rares..are not really so rare. I hate power scrolls, artifacts and all that...I remember back in the day when you got a rare..be it a little rock or whatever..it was truley rare..and surviving actually meant something...blah..I better shut up before I go on a rant. I miss a lot of stuff. Course I don't even play anymore so I guess it doesn't matter

Aye I remember the talking NPC's also, I believe "localization" broke those.
Shame it can't be added back.
