Loot

The title says it all. If I could fix something, it would be to go back to the old looting system.

I'm talking about getting rid of the few thousand trash items that drop every time you kill something. I miss the gold old days when you knew to keep an item if it said it was unidentified. Everything else was mundane garbage.

edit - I want to clarify that I am not saying go back to the old system. Just get rid of the 15 junk items that drop every time I kill something. If I am killing stuff in painted caves, I honestly can't even look at half the items on the corpse because something new is spawning already. Or, maybe, put a tag on items that shows its value. I don't know, something.

Re: Loot

I would be really happy if they just increased the size of rings, even if its only while in a bag or on a corpse. They can be hard to target while your trying to fight somthing else and not die.

Re: Loot

Even back in the day, a lot of junk dropped. Maybe not 20 things on one corpse, but still, it was a lot of junk. I remember taking it home and smelting it for ingots. Now with the jewelery, totems, etc, there is just a greater variety of junk to be dropped.

Re: Loot

It would be also nice to remove the instant respawn on nearly all locations.

It's just silly, i kill something and it just takes a second and the mob spawns again 2 tiles away. It's a stupid respawnsystem imo. Give the mobs atleast some kind of a random spawntimer between 1 - 5 minutes....

I don't know when you are talking about, but I'm thinking pre-aos when I say "in the past". It was rare for creatures to drop any equipable items. They would drop a small amount of gold.

Dragons would drop 700 gold or so, and have maybe 2 items if you were lucky. And, you quickly knew whether to keep it or not based on if it was unidentified.

Re: Loot

Yeah, the instant spawn entirely blows. It makes it impossible to clear out an area, even for a brief moment to collect loot. And with less players around to help control the spawn, it makes for some really horrible experiences.

One caveat, however - if you like to make your own cloth, this REALLY cuts down on the time needed to sheer sheep! Sheer them and then kill'em. They spawn back almost instantly!

Re: Loot

I'm talking pre third dawn I guess. I remember going and hunting for hours in Khaldun, fighting those invisible swordsmen. They may have only dropped one item at a time, but the majority of it was junk. I remember carrying an ID wand with me so I'd know when I finally got something halfway decent.

That would be perfectly fine for me. I don't want to sift through 15 items to find the possible 1 item that is worth keeping.

Re: Loot

They need to just realise that crafting already makes better armor and weapons then you can get from most monsters. They continue to buff crafting but nothing has really been done to improve loot from monsters. If they would just realise that apart from a few weapons and a bunch of jewelry items all of the rest is junk and adjust accordingly it would be a welcome change.

I don't have a problem with crafters making better loot. I simply have a problem with sorting through tons of garbage to find the things that might be important to me.

I hate to admit it, but in this case WoW has the best system I have seen. Not much drops on a corpse. Items are clearly marked (grey = bad, white = crafting, green/blue/purple = magical and worth keeping).

In fact, I really don't understand why we needed to move away from Item ID anyway. It wasn't a bad system. I knwo for the new loot it made *less* sense, but there are items that are still clearly "magical" versus mundane.

I don't know how many times I have had to look at that +1dex ring or katana with 25% increased durability -27 mage skill. No one is going to loot it, all it does it clutter up the space.

Try farming Trogs some time and you'll see what I'm griping about. I think we should all start dumping corpses on the group to prove just how much garbage you get in a set amount of time.
