How long would insurance deeds last? Until you die? That could go pretty quick lol. If they would be difficult to get, the reward would have to be worth it.

permenent like power scrolls once you use it on a weapon or whatever it is insured but now when you die they still cost 600 gold but the insurance will be on the item

That could be the point though Adri, making it actually worthwhile to NOT die.

As it is, in game the only detriment to dieing is the time it takes to find a healer and get back to your body. Not much in the way of "oh crap I'm going to die". It's more of a "oh well, I'll be right back".

I dunno, there are still things you can lose if you die, with or without insurance. If you look at other games like WoW, you don't even do that. You just keep all your things on you regardless. I think there should be some element of risk to dying, or who would care? Maybe make insurance so other players/monsters cannot loot you, but you still have to go back to your corpse to retrieve your items?

Maybe it's just me (I'm sure it is, or atleast close to it), but one of the better things I liked about UO was that you actually can have a large penalty for dieing. Making the game that much more interesting/difficult.

WoW is great for it's own reasons, but that doesn't mean that part of the game would be great for UO. UO has more of a "real" feel than most other MMO's I've seen. Making it too easy to just die and get back to exactly how you were before would make it less "real" and more like the rest.

The big difference that I feel is important is that UO is NOT supposed to be item based, where as if stuff in WoW went away upon death you'd probably be completely screwed, it's not so much the same in UO.

Well, if items were to disappear through normal gameplay, then what would you have left???

You see, it could kill 2 birds with 1 stone. It would add something new to the game (the deeds) AND make it more difficult (since they are always looking to buff mobs to make it more difficult) at the same time (if items were lost).

I agree with many of the things said. The insurance deeds should have a time limit on them also that they would last. If not they would be to much like bless deeds. Let the Insurance last two weeks, a month maybe? The time you have left would look something like this on your item.

Insured ( 1 week, 10hrs ) or
Insured ( 3:5:2 ) where it would be (week:days:hours)

I believe this would cause for a constant need for the deeds. It would give them more value. For the different ways people could earn them could vary many different ways, but must remain "realistic."

Mules: Of course BODs
PvE: %chance from a monster depending on level of difficulty.
PvP: Now this is where it would be a little differnt. The insurance deeds could not be blessed. This will allow them to drop on peoples bodies when they die. You can even give players a % chance to drop one like I mentioned in my 1st post. In fel tho the % drop rate would be higher from monsters except for those in champ spawns which could not drop one. This would boost the amount of PvP action out there and gives Thieves something else to look forward to
Other: Escorting NPC's could be a possible reward for getting a deed. The begging skill could be made more useful to where NPC's could give you one from begging.

All of these different things could be made possible and fixed from exploiting. UO really should add this to the servers. Maybe we should take this idea further and get them to look at it.

And make it more realistic


I still think it should go away, and item properties drastically should downplayed in the game...
The resistances are a good idea, but +X skill and DCI, HCI and the others just kill the skills...

But since removing item properties (even a little bit) is basically pipe dream, making insurance more "real" and more costly is A-OK in my book
