New & with many questions
So I started about a day or 2 ago on the shard Lake Austin. So far everyone has been extremely helpful. I am rather confused as of right now as to what to do...or where to go. Mainly as in like...what do I do I mean like in some games there are npcs that tell you where to go or give you quests, and tell you where to go for dungeons. But seeing as the map or navigation i have isnt workin to well. If anyone could give me a guide or a walkthrough or a tour as of what a new warrior should go. That'd be most helpful cause right now I been walking all over the place and just found some towns/cities, and just lots and lots of forests.
Thanks ahead of time for all your help ![]() |

Re: New & with many questions
Since you picked Lake Austin, your best bet is to join the UO Forums guild, a bunch of happy people who will find plenty of fun things for you to do. In the meantime, a warrior can take his/her skills up by going to Makoto-Jima in the Tokuno Islands, and heading out to the Waste (desert) to kill Deathwatch Beetle Hatchlings and Deathwatch Beetles (adults). Stay there until your weapon skill and other battle skills (tactics, anatomy, healing) are in the high 60's.
That should keep you occupied for a few days, at least. Talk to the NPC Ansella Gryen (not far from the Makoto-Jima moongate) for a fun little quest. Welcome to UO!

Re: New & with many questions
You could also just go out and explore. There is no "do this, then that" to UO. It's more of a "You can do this, or you can do that" type of game. The world is open, and you can do just about anything you can imagine in game (as long as your skill set allows it).
Did you do the walk-through when you had the option to when you first made your character? Did you do an "Advanced" character, or a pre-set warrior? Some pre-set classes start you off with a learning quest to do, I'd also suggest doing one or all just to learn about different skills/types of game play. You can delete the characters and make new ones if you don't like them.

Re: New & with many questions
I am pretty sure I did the walkthrough. I mean i got ported all over and this guy told me about places. But I think what im mainly looking for is, how does everyone get all these cool weapons and armor and ect... If it's dungeons then that's basically what I am looking for. To go dungeon crawling, and I have explored and havent found much...I guess change in scenery. Or much difference in monsters, I think mainly cause I have 0 idea where all the portals lead or what dungeons or what I can do at said places. That's the main reason why I posted this

Re: New & with many questions
Ah, it'd take a long time to explain what you can do where and to get what.
It'll take a while before your character is ready to get the higher end stuff. If you go anywhere in Ilshenar (one of the choices on the left side when you walk through a moongate) if you fight anything gold in color with (Paragon) after it, you have a small chance of getting a Minor Artifact. And even doing that can be difficult depending on what your fighting. Have you checked out uo.stratics.com?? UO.Com? And there is also UOstuff.com and UOGuide.com that have some good information too. It's hard to explain what to do, where to go, what to kill because everyone has a different taste for things. And something one person may like to do (hunt dragons + collect leather & items or run with a group and hunt Peerless Boses) may not be what another likes.

Re: New & with many questions
Dungeons are a great place for new players if they are with someone/crowd. Most dungeons are geared for the mid to high end player. You can find lots of things on top of the ground to fight and gain skill. Even pick up some usable equipment. The really nice stuff will take time or a lot of money

Re: New & with many questions
Or a trip to Paul Mart.
The guys have it aright. There is no easy way to explain the game set, except that it is wide open. We all heartily recommend doing research on uo.stratics.com and uo.com and uostuff.com. From your description, you started the walkthrough, but did not complete it. Second, in game, you have to work your way up. expect to have difficulty staying alive. Equipment is a real pain unless you have someone to help you out. Do you have the trial, or did you buy the game? This will really help, as we can get you to swoops to get gear. The really really cool stuff takes a long time to get.

Re: New & with many questions
Sid, also give us a basic idea of what you want your first char to be. A mage, swordsman, necromancer, archer? Also a bit of your gaming background, then we'll know what it is your used to. UO has tremendous depth, which can make it all a bit confusing at first.
On Lake Austin, look for anyone with a UO:F guild tag we'll get ya started. In the beginning it's training , training & more training. Not just by questing as in other games. Look forward to your replies ~ Se'an Silverfoot

Re: New & with many questions
Sid,
we now have a few houses all together in three places on the LA shard. The easiest to get to is the UOF Crossroads. There is nomrally someone there to help, plus our neighbor Leonilla. To get there, go to any moongate. Click on Malas. Click on Umbra. Go northwest to the bridge across. You will be on a road. You will see houses lining the left side of the road. Go south between them, and we are the second row away from the road. My store is called Paul Mart (click on house sign). We actually have 3 houses there, and 6 total in the area.

So on this i'd probally say a swordsman seeing as that's what I been mainly training or at least fighting most monsters with. Baldguy, who would I send a tell to, to get a invite to the guild? If you are inviting and I am logging on right now to stop by the houses and continue to level in the desert area. |
