Arg. I just got over the flu from hades, and not a week later I'm getting sick again!!!! I've been resting and sleeping... grrr! Anyone have any good sore throat remedies?

Boil some ginger and water. Take out the ginger, let it cool a bit, then drink. Might want to add some honey if you don't like the taste of ginger.

Or honey and lemon.

Gargle using salted water.

Drink lots and lots of water. Even if it means having to go to the washroom every 10 mins. Then after relieving yourself, drink some more.

You can also gargle using a solution of one part hydrogen peroxide, one part salt water. Do NOT swallow it. It tastes entirely foul, and you will look a little like a rabid dog, but it is good for sore throats. It's also good for your gums and mouth.

My fav in the winter tho is mulled wine. Get a cheesecloth bag, and in it put orange peels, a cinnamon stick, and a few whole cloves. Bring a bottle of red wine to a simmer on the stove in a saucepan, and drop the bag in. Let it steep for about 15-20 mins. Take out the bag and sweeten the wine using honey or brown sugar to taste. Drink while it's still hot. Actually, that's good with or without a sore throat, but the throat is a good excuse.

The combination of hydrogen peroxide and salt water I would not wish on DiP or an orc even! It does work for a time though.

I prefer hot lemonade with one teaspoon of honey. This was recommended to me by a doctor when you even suspect you're getting sick. Truly effective at the beginning and tastes much better!

6 shots of two finger tequilla...won't really cure your throat, but you won't care anymore

Must be a Phillipino thing, I use the same things. I also throw in a lemon cough drop in the honey & lemon mixture, and superheat it to melt it then drink (while barely letting it cool off just enough to not kill you).

Salt & water gargle is a MUST.

Hot lemonade is wicked for 'flu' like symtpoms as lemonade [ but only the good stuff] contains quinine ,a natural ingredient,which helps get rid of the aches and pains.It wont remove the actual sneezing,sniffling etc though.

Quinine > Lemons> Lemonade.

hence why most 'cold' remedies contain them.

Just as good is squeezed lemon in boiled water with honey

Stick a splurge of brandy/whisky in there too [ at bedtime] and you will sleep like a baby

My gran always had a jar of squeezed lemon juice/brandy and honey mix in a tightly sealed jar ready for emergencies.Its easy to keep ready in the fridge these days
