  | Bird fun! I had 3 common redpolls visit my back yard bird feeders this morning! I'm so excited! I reported it to Cornell University's Project FeederWatch as a rare bird and submitted photos. Redpolls are common up in northern Canada and Alaska, but not "down south" here in Chicago! They're an irruptive species, meaning they come down south every few years based on shortages of food in their native nesting grounds. I've read that nuts and seeds are short this winter up north, which would explain the redpolls showing up in my back yard! Still, Chicago is pretty far south for these guys   |
