CK stood along the shore line and looked out at the four ships patrolling the waters around Dragons Watch; behind him Valmeer was digging through the pack of a Mondain Priest and grumbling under his breath. CK shook his head at his old friend and as the last of the ships sailed out of his eye site he turned to face him.


“Do you have to kill them all?” He asked as he watch Val scatter the contents of the dead mans pack on the ground.

“What? Oh, yeah of course, priest of the Mondain. That’s evil, you know that. I hate them all.” His friend said as he cleaned his Kyrss on the dead priest robe, sheathed it and continued digging through his pack.

“Some day you may need one of those priest for healing” CK told him

“I would rather bleed to death first!” Val said looking up at him with a disgusted look on his face

“I see, so it is alright for you from time to time visit a tavern, have an ale and pat a barmaid on the bottom but it’s forbidden to accept the healings of a man whose faith is not the same as yours. Perfect since” CK responded, his tone heavy with sarcasm.


Val now looking disappointed with his lack of loot shoved the few coins the dead priest had into his own pack and pulled out an apple, cleaned it on his own robe and began munching on it as he pointed out across the water ignoring his friends comment.

“So because PaxOku is having all these problems you rush out and buy a fleet of ships to protect Dragons Watch which is miles and miles and miles away. Do you think it will reach this far?

“Perhaps, all the townships are close allies, anything could happen. I would rather have to many then not enough so to speak” CK answered him

“Of course, so inland we will have advance warning. You rush out and buy a navy because we would have no ideal if something was coming at us from the sea, correct?” Val pushed his feathered hat up a bit to get a better look at the scene,

“Exactly, I’m sure the people of Dragons Watch wont mind and what is all this “we” stuff. I thought you said you were finished fighting other men’s wars. CK said and gave him a sideways look.

“I blame you, you know I would ride with you to the gates of nine hells if needs be. You were the one who was going to retire and live a life of peace. Now you talk of politics and protecting like you did ten years ago. Val responded spitting out an apple seed.

“It’s in my blood I guess, same as yours. You know as well as I do that when it comes down to it you will be the first one to cross the cannon line to fight.” CK told him

Val chucked the apple core out into the water and placed his shield on his back as he called his Charger. “Aye, and so it begins. The next ride of The Keeper and Valmeer, while we are saving the world do you mind if we swing by the Ladies Lair? I’m sure I will be hungry by the time we make our rounds over in Paxlair.

CK chuckled at his friend as he called his own ethereal mount; they had spent most mornings patrolling the Paxlair towns killing off anything that could threaten the people that lived in them. He looked once more into the dead face of the Mondain priest. Damn shame, he put up a good fight but he was still no match for the deadly precision of Val’s weapons. He had seen this one before wandering in the town and now he was no more. So is the way of life and it was just the mans bad luck that he was on the wrong side of another mans faith. He casted a fire ball and set the dead mans body ablaze. He didn’t agree with the mans faith but he didn’t sneer at it either and the least he could do is make sure none of the creatures feasted on his remains. Val watched him in silence but did mumble a prayer as the mans body was consumed by the flames and together they turned to ride for Paxlair.
