Drawing 1 ~ The Captain's decide on a location in deep water just off the shores of PaxOku

Drawing 2 ~ Each boat was manned with approximately 4 players including the Captain. Each boat had approximately 25 nets

Drawing 3 ~ Death was inevitable to those unprepared to fight or hide. Some of us just couldn't fit in the hold!

Drawing 4 ~ Confusion abounds as an anchor is smashed and a ship goes astray in the mayhem.

Here was the story I told. I prefaced my introduction at the story-telling content that my story is not a story about the past, but perhaps about the future (who knows). Yet it is a most memorable subject in the Realm for me ... friends and fishing:

Fishing Forever

Alas, I found myself washed up on a sandy beach near Trinsic one day. How did I get there? I looked around seeing dead fish scattered everywhere. What a waste! I thought to myself. All this good fish rotting for the ravens and crows to feast on.

It was painful to stand ... my clothes completely water soaked. Salty air blew in from the sea giving me quite a chill.

Then I smelled the smoke, an acrid smoke. Rubbing the saltwater from my eyes, I look along the beach. A campfire glowed a few paces away in the darkening evening. And there sat a man, humming to himself.

Still having no idea how I came to be on this beach, I walked over to the man. My leg hurt, so I limped a bit. The man kept humming.

He was dressed in a bright blue and red suit and wore a hat with four bells jingling when he shook his head. Ah, he must be a jester! But what was HE doing here? What am I doing here?

"Hail there," I said. The jester stopped humming and looked up at me. A wide grin formed on his face as he jumped up and gave me a huge hug!

"Winfield! It's really you!" the jester exclaimed. I broke his embrace so I could get a better look at him.

"Wizzie? Wizzie, is that really you?" I remembered Wizzie from PaxLair City where he was a barkeep and our wild and crazy city jester.

The jester shook his head violently and jingled his bells. Then he juggled three rocks in the air with expertise I have not seen, well, since I last saw Wizzie.

"Wizzie it is you!" I said now recognizing him. "What are you doing here?"

"Waiting for you, Winfield," Wizzie said still juggling the rocks.

"Waiting for me? But I was not heading here, in fact I don't even know where here is."

"Oh, it's my Island! Wizzie's Island!" He dropped the rocks and spread his arms wide, and wider towards the rest of the island. "It's all mine!"

A little skeptical, I asked him a question. "Alright Wizzie, how did you get an Island?"

"It was simple Winfield. I just wished it."

"You wished it?"

"Yep, I wished it and then here I was, on the beach. But I don't know how to get off the beach."

I looked at the island, then back at Wizzie.

"But why am I here," I asked still looking around. "Last thing I remember I was on my fishing boat pulling in a big net of fish."

"Yep," he said pointing behind me. "And there's your fish. Well, a little rotten by now."

"My fish? You mean I fell overboard or something and I washed up here with my fish?"

"Oh no, Winfield. I wished you here, just like I wished me here. Isn't it nice?" He jingled his bells again.

I blinked in amazement. "So now I am stranded here too?"

Wizzie looked down, "I think you are, Winfield, but isn't that great?"

I just shook my head, looked around the island, and saw all my dead fish.

"I'm not sure that's so great Wizzie."

"But now you can fish all you want! Don't mind your old fish, there's plenty here!"

So, with a shrug and a smile, I pulled out my fish bait and pole. Wizzie jingled his bells and we went fishing.

The Case of the Destroyed Kryss

The Plaintiff loaned a kryss to the Defendant who returned it in extremely poor condition. In fact, when the Plaintiff tried to repair it, the kryss broke and turned to dust. The Plaintiff is suing the Defendant for 10K gold to recover the cost of the kryss.

The Defendant borrowed the Plaintiff's kryss for a long hunting adventure. He claims the kryss worked fine for a while, then didn't kill anything. So he returned the kryss to the Plaintiff as per their agreement and should not have to pay anything for such a shoddy weapon that almost got him killed by monsters.

PAXLAIR SMALL CLAIMS COURT CASE: "The Case of the Destroyed Kryss"

Defendant found responsible to replace blade or pay 10,000 gp to claimant.

Kathleen: I have considered the evidence provided in this case.
Kathleen: Klinfreth loaned a weapon to Freezun after he was asked.
Kathleen: However, the weapon is still the property of the person who loaned it out,
Kathleen: and the person who loaned it has a reasonable chance of expecting to get it back
Kathleen: in a similar condition as to when it was lent.
Kathleen: From the testimony of Freezun, it would seem that even after the kryss started to show wear,
Kathleen: he continued to use it, even going back several times after leaving.
Kathleen: And, as he said, he could not leave all that loot behind,
Kathleen: which tends to discredit his statement that he can not afford to replace the blade.
Kathleen: Therefore,
Kathleen: it is the judgement of this court that Freezun is responsible for replacing the blade
Kathleen: or pay to the claimant the 10,000 gold he has requested.

Treasure Hunt went well yesterday as well. We succesfully found three treasure chests and had an excellent hunt! Thanks to Evadne Howard for her hard work with this event!

Quite apparently Titans enjoy their cake just as much as the next creature, but this last one wasn't able to eat it, too!

Winfield, Governor of PaxLair Statehood

Time seems to have passed very quickly when we look at history. For 10 years ago today, on January 19th, 1998, I was among friends from The Band guild scouting out a little meadow area on Felucca west of the Compassion Shrine. We'd been together as a guild for a few years under Nightfall's and later Ender's leadership, even before the Realm came into being. We were a strange lot, always looking for something new to do.

Well on this night long ago, TB members placed a few houses, then a tower. We later called the area PaxLair as a "Peace Place" to invite our friends and our enemies. Many people came, then came more houses, then more guilds, then the gods, then the counselors, then the seers, then Lord British! Time passed so quickly our heads were spinning, or at times lost to some nasty murderous enemies. *smiles*

Back then we had no idea what PaxLair would become. We only knew this Realm is all about people like us and you.

So in our PaxLair history, we've seen so many residents take to the streets or dungeons and help each other. Even when killing each other at times, we've put our forces to the test. Camaraderie formed and people became committed to various causes.

To help commemorate our 10th Anniversary, our Minister of Knowledge Neo of Lothlore has done a great service for us. He built in the PaxLair Skypage a pictorial of the last 10 years of PaxLair! It is truly an amazing display of our roots, our nature, and our ideas. For one must look upon the past to perhaps get a glimpse of one's future. Thank you Neo of Lothlore, thank you very much!

Yet today I stand before you to talk not much of the past, but of the future.

I have this strange and wonderful feeling that our PaxLair and our Shard will see many more glorious days and years. Some people try to guess how long the Realm may exist for us, and people leave the Realm for one reason or another. But rays of hope always seem to shine through. I see new people being born in the Realm and I see old veterans coming back into our midst.

These are actually wonderful times my friends. These rays of hope are signs I think. A sign of compelling camaraderie and faith in each other. A sign that the Realm and PaxLair in it will move into a new Decade of adventure, enlightenment, and hope!

The people you see here today are a testimony to these rays of hope. A testimony that we, the people of this Realm, are here to stay and stay we will. And as we stay, we will adventure together, sell to each other, kill each other, and be as creative as we can. This is a place of enjoyment, not work. It is a place where people's dreams can come true, whatever they may be. PaxLair is always committed to help dreams become reality!

Our three active cities of Dragons Watch, PaxLair City, and PaxOku are very strong and very active. We have great people in each city and in our Statehood. We have great allies and friends. We have been through so much together and will continue to be together into the future. That is our destiny.

My friends, PaxLair will always be here. It is persistent. It is a stage for your dreams. It is a humble icon of what has been and what can be. It shines with rays of hope just as our shard shines.

I thank everyone! All those who traveled before us, are here today, and those who come in our future. PaxLair enters our next Decade with Rays of Hope!!
