Killing and Stealing in PaxOku (The full idea, more may be added)

(Alright, just got off work...whew I am starting this at 4:40am so if its post is not at 6am please dont hold it against me. I want to make sure I dont miss any details on this.)

To start I did read the responses given by citizens and non citizens. Everyones response was taken the same even if your not from the Statehood.

Now what I have heard is everyone is like I hate PvP. If you look at PvP and the way it is represented now a days its more like PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPvP. That is NOT at all what I am looking to do. Nor am I looking for some Roleplayed Pk to come in and Kill Katherine then move on to Tat then to Lenora and clear out the population. RULES are a must in these kind of ideas and I HOPE you find them to your liking. I plan to write out section by section from engagement to What they can wear.

One other things that I have always agreed with MANY Old PaxLair people is this.

"If this person joins the city or you do this then I am going to quit."

9/10 out of ten we will say, "That is your choice."

So before the bashing and giving us the Ultimatum hits give me a chance to explain it all. As Mayor of the city I do NOT accept Ultimatums and almost all of you know that.


Section One- Equipment

Murderers-

-Gm Crafted armor only.
(This does not include runic crafted armor like made from a Val Runic hammer or barbed kit etc.)

-Gm Crafted Weapons Only.
(This does not include runic crafted weapons like made from a Val Runic hammer or Heartwood runic kit.)

Thieves-

Street clothing ONLY. Your clothing must be of a Dark color. No armor and you may only use the following weapons.

-Gm Crafted Weapons
(Dagger, Club, Knife or Leafblade.)
(This does not include runic crafted weapons like made from a Val Runic hammer or Heartwood runic kit.)

A thief would not be carrying around a halberd trying to steal from someone. How are they going to take an item holding a two handed weapon?

Section Two- Fleeing


Murderers-

You may NOT recall or do anything that takes you off the server unless running. You may NOT use any kind of mount. You may invis yourself, stealth, teleport etc.

Thieves-

You may NOT recall or do anything that takes you off the server unless running. You may NOT use any kind of mount. You may invis yourself, stealth, teleport etc.

(You may NOT go into any kind of form that makes you run faster.)

Section Three- Attacking


Murderers-

1. You cannot attack anyone inside a building unless the building is designated as Open to RPK.

2. You cannot attack someone who is in a group with three or more people unless they break off from the group.

3. You cannot use any bugs or hacks to kill someone.

4.Tamer killers may use frenzied ostys to kill someone but NO other tameable creature.

5. You may not kill someone at ANY event such as PaxLair wide meetings or Tavern events UNLESS it is written on the event that RPK is allowed at the event.
(Section Three #2 applies to this rule)

6.You may NOT res kill or touch anything on someones body.

7. You may NOT harass anyone you kill.

Thieves-

1.You cannot attack ANYONE unless they refuse to turn over the gold from their gold Pouch.

2.You may NOT kill someone. If a player is taken down to half health they must release their gold in their pouch to you.

3.You may NOT steal or snoop from anyone. The only thing you can do is "hold" someone up and ask for the gold in the pouch or anything else inside their gold pouch.

Section Four- When it should take place


Murderers-
-Behind buildings
-in between two buildings such as The Court House and Museum of Virtues.
-In the woods
-Sometimes when no one is around you may attack in the streets.

Thieves-
-In the citizens home. (Following them home)
-In front of a building
-Behind a building
-In between two buildings.
-In the woods
-At the Moongate
-When they go to put their taxes in the mailbox.
-When a city council member is collecting the Taxes from the mailbox. (hehehehe)

Section Five- Where it can NEVER happen

-Inside the PaxKratOku Vendor House or infront of.
(people stock vendors and you dont need to be killing them or stealing from when when they do. Also auctions happen and its bad for business.)

-At the Blue Light Tavern (BUT the Red Light Tavern it may.)

=-More citizens may add their buildings as they see fit.-=

Section Six- THE PUNISHMENTS

Yes, here is the part that every citizen LOVES to see. What is going to happen to you!!!

Murderers and Thieves

1. You may be jailed for upto 30 UO days which is (??? Real Days)

1b. You may be jailed for up to Three years real time.
Which would mean you were linked to multiple killings or stealings. (Such sentence will most likely be up for jail break.)

This means you may NOT play the character or leave the jail. (Roleplayed break-outs must be approved by the defense MINISTER or CHANCELLOR to limit people as saying "Well I broke out".)

2. You may be executed making the character never playable again.

(Such murderer characters may be built to be killed. Your choice when becoming one is that you may be executed and you delete the character. **Soulstones would be good for such a GREAT executable rp killer.**)

3. Community service

(Community Service may be the following and more not listed.

- Having to help defend PaxLair or Dragons Watch City in the military. (Meaning your cant kill an innocent) but, will kill the attackers.

-Working for the Ministry of the Statehood.

-Having to Report the PaxLair Statehood Meeting Minutes and posting them.

-Having to fix Governor Winfields Boat for his fishing trip.

-Do tours at the Museum of Virtues Annex.

-Seeing the city Shrink for 30mins two times a week

(Oh yes your character may plead insain but, do you really want to? You will spend 30mins in character with a City Shrink two times a week for up to 30weeks!!! You must talk about your childhood, problems, sex life? or lack their of. Dont miss an appointment)

-LOTS MORE TO BE ADDED

Section Seven. Paying back those you killed or stole from.

Yes, see when you kill people you need to keep track of insurance. If caught you will need to pay back every single person you killed the insurance amount.
This is an honor system but, I ASSURE you that people who die will write down you killed them and how much insurance it cost.

(So if you kill Ga'kuct and he is worth 10,000 gold you would collect 5,000 gold **Remember were talking the insurance they collect. This does not cover re-insurance** and if you killed him three times you owe him 15,000 gold. SO make sure you save the insurance you collect from killing.)

If you stole 50gold from Gareth, 5 from Katherine and 15 from Jasper you would need to pay 70gold back.
SO DONT GET CAUGHT!!!


Section Eight- Roleplaying a killer or theif

(Guidelines to playing them and take them as rules as well.)

1. A murderer wouldnt just kill anyone in plain site. They would not risk blowing their cover or being caught. They would stalk their victim. Following them around seeing their daily routines.

They wouldn't take on two guards and the person they tryed to kill. (Unless they were just that cocky)

2. A thief wouldnt hold someone up in public or in a group. They would follow them until they were behind a building or alleyway. A thief must be a master stalker and very careful.

Section Nine- Being Caught


1. If you are killed by a city Guard you are arrested.
1a.(If killed by who your trying to kill your not arrested.)
(impersonating a guard automatically releases them from being arrested at trial.)

=-You must be on the Official City Guard Roster and in the Guard Guild to be a guard-=

(Exceptions. Minister/Chancellor of Defense may make an arrest.)

2. If your paralized and surrounded by three or more people **ONE GUARD MUST BE PRESENT TO MAKE THE ARREST** you are arrested.

3. You cannot be arrested in ONE building. (The shattered Inn in Anei Village. If you can make it to the friends only teleporter and hide inside they cannot arrest you. Guards may not enter the building but, sometimes may break the law just to make the arrest.

*Who is the judge going to believe? You?!?! or the Guard?*

Section Ten- Some things this opens up


-This makes a guards force USEFUL!!! People will want to play a city guard with something to do.

(In this past we started a city guard and had 15 people during its run but all quit because they had nothing to do..)

-Court system. A judge and lawyers and all that good stuff will be doing something that isnt already written out from beginning to end. The decisions they make will start talk among the city and maybe even a protest if a killer is let off.

-More roleplayed profession have a MEANING and A PURPOSE. For Example

-The Murderer
-The Dread Lord
-The Thief
-The Mercenary
-The Guard
-The Forensic evaluator
-The Sheriff
-The Assassin
-The Witch Hunter
-Personal Body Guards
-The Judge
-The Lawyer
-The Bailbondsman
-The City Shrink
-The Little old lady that runs a tavern and gives the killers and stealers a place to hide. (hehehe)

Im sure their are more professions that will open up with this. Also the news and something different that other cities on the shard havent done in tram. Sure they have it in fel but, you never get a safe spot or event. More roleplayed quests.

"Tracking the Murderer"

More things for our news to write up. People may come to the city to help track down people and it may bring new people to the city.

So thats my idea. I hope I hit alot of stuff that looks good.

Section Eleven How to become a RPK and a RPT


We will NOT just let ANYONE assume these roles. They will be screened and this is how.

1. A Background check. We will use your Icq or aim and will ask to see six characters and guild tags. We will research all of your characters to see what guilds you are in.

1a. If you are in multipal guilds we will talk to the guildmaster and members of the guild to see what kind of person you are.
*You will NOT be turned down by belonging to ANY guild on the shard*

If you fail to meet what we think the person playing these roles are we will deny you access to these roleplayed characters.

1b. If you do not belong to a guild trust me when I say Myself, Winfield, Nanoc, Phoenix, Allana, Ga'kuct, Tatania, Claggart, Tiberius and Neira know just about EVERYONE on the shard together. We will find background on you. :-)

2. You will meet with every Mayor and the Gov before being acepted as a RPK and RPT. They will have a list of questions or just a get to know you session. You must have the approval from the following.

Gov. Winfield
M. Ga'kuct
M. Nanoc
M. Gareth

If turned down by one of the four you will be denied access to the roleplayed character.

*(This is to insure the safety of our people and preserve the roleplay.)*

Well done Mayor Gareth, I like this a lot. It certainly would open up a lot of RP situations. It's a huge undertaking, but one that may liven things up a bit for all in general. One thing that caught my attention though was this:

I wish there were a way to amend this. The biggest talent a thief has is the ability to take something from someone without notice. Playing an RP Robber is fine, but to actually RP a thief that would walk up to you and start a conversation, all the while picking your pocket, is interesting too.

Certainly they would only be allowed to steal from the designated pouch, but just imagine your surprise that when you return home, you notice the items you placed in your pouch missing! You would then have to think back to the people you came in contact with, report them to the guard, and be on the lookout for them from that point on.

It would make a sneak thief more viable...and you are revealed even if you stealth up to a person then steal from them. So, there is no worry that you wouldn't notice who they are as they fled.

Playing a Robber or Mugger is fine, but a Pickpocket is great fun also... Something to think about. If it doesn't fall within the guidelines that's fine. What you have started here looks great thus far. I'm curious what others will think.

One step at a time. Making the pouch stealable will frighten many people that will complain about that. So I figured id leave that part to maybe added later if this becomes workable and acceptable.

Not really. We have people in positions that handel arrest, court dates and other roleplayed positions. The rules seem like many but, are not. Really isnt that much work :-).

I see similarities to CoRE on Europa. Their Rules of Engagement are here, then use the left menu for each section.

Overall, this looks like a good plan, Gareth. People involved in this will need to really learn the rules of course. Several people in PaxOku or our Statehood may want no part of this, though, being a reason they are in PaxOku and not in PaxLair City or Dragons Watch.

I tend to look back on earlier days of Chesapeake, when everyone was on Felucca (before it was called Felucca). There were several RPK (as you call it) guilds. CoV Vampires and the Wraith are two who did the RPK very, very well.

CoV may have done some straight forward PvP PKing outside of PaxLair, but when inside PaxLair, it was RPK, and they only "hunted for victims" when they were "hungry". We could usually tell when they were "hungry". Sometimes they were hungry for certain people for whatever reasons. I for one was never "bitten" by their vampires probably out of respect or the fact I was neutral to them. Instead, they lured me to Gehenna, I met with OM (their guildleader), and we talked about light and darkness. Outside their tower, the other Vampires were feeding on some wayward strangers coming through Gehenna.

In PaxLair, I don't believe the CoV ever looted, they never rez killed, and they did stick to shadowy places. They only interrupted events if the timing was right, but it was never a major interruption. They might pick off someone on the edge of an event, and rarely even killed anyone unless they fought back or was a known guard.

We had a lot of fun with CoV. Our guards had a lot of fun with them, and we had quests with them (none were ever scripted from them to us, they just offered the situations and we reacted).

We also did not have any rules with CoV, but I imagine they had a set of rules their people had to follow closely when in RPK mode.

So in comparison, it sounds like you are setting up something similar to CoV, but for individuals to participate in, not merely a guild of evil or a guild of guards.

I do like the idea of a sense of danger, as long as it is realistic and immersive within the game and people don't have to look up rule #4 quickly to know how to react. I also have great respect for those not wanting the player-based uncertainty of danger, who generally stick to PvM.

I suggest you run with some of these ideas, hold a court session, throw someone in jail, and see how it works. I suggest it not be scripted much, it should be reactive within the game.

The upcoming invasion may delay some of your plans, but I think the idea of intense RPing from good, evil, combat, non-combat, families, government, and trade & commerce all bring people 3 steps above the "game mechanics" in our Realm.
