How Far Advance Notice is Needed
I have a question to ask of people. How far in advance do you really need to know about an event in order to participate in it? A glance at a calendar page that morning? A week? 2 weeks?
I know for a fact that I can plan to be in game at a certain time, if I know something I want to do is going on. Sometimes, I can't but many times I am able to. I know people who have set game times around their RL work or school schedules. This is what I do, so that may make me a lil more 'normal' even! *scary thought* If something is scheduled at a time you may not make the start of, do you contact the event leader/host to see if you can come in late? I have, but I want to know what others do as well. I'm curious. I like Gareth's suggestion that anyone can use PaxOku public buildings as a gathering place to run an event from. May take you up on that! You've been warned! Thank you in advance for any replies, Lady Hester Tarian Crest of Courageous Hearts |

Re: How Far Advance Notice is Needed
Pardon my intrusion but I would like to speak on that.
I have found that no matter how far in advance an event is shceduled. It is the last minute reminders (posts, ICQ and guild chat) that get the people to show up .Vepl |

Re: How Far Advance Notice is Needed
Here's also how I see "event planning" and when to post/check.
1. Check calendars daily to see if anything is new, changed, cancelled. Even if announced weeks in advance. Check the replies in the calendar event too. 2. Event organizers should post calendar item one week in advance if possible, at worst case a couple of days. If really late in posting an event, then also post messageboard posts to alert people and also send out ICQs, etc. 3. Like Vepl said, last minute reminders via any communication means gets more people to an event. This includes getting books out around the shard some time that day, then maybe again an hour before the event. Also, running through Luna and other high traffic areas announcing the event within 15 minutes of start time helps too. 4. For latecomers, depending on the event like those competitions requiring registration, most can join in while the event is going on. Of course, if the event moves around, like an adventure, then the best way is to ICQ, alliance chat, etc. to find people or better yet, use UO Automap Server Link (if others are using it too) to see where everyone is. PaxLair UO Automap Server Link info is here. I hope this helps a little, Player behind Winfield |
