Duration of PaxLair Weekly Meetings
Our meeting format for Tuesday nights has been the following for several months:
8:30 PM ET - Gather together 9:00 PM ET - Meeting 10:00 PM ET - Post-meeting activities I have purposefully limited our meetings to one hour maximum. Sometimes they last 30 minutes, other times they go a little overtime, but 90% of the time we keep the meetings to one hour. The post-meeting activities are time for follow-up between people or the entire group based on topics in the meeting, or to have an adventure, tour, or quest. I would like opinions and poll results on how long you'd like the formal part of our meeting. Comments are welcome of course!! Note: your ideas are very welcome and can influence my decisions. Should it really have a set time? In the future you could just say the meeting will start at 9 and last "about" an hour. I see nothing wrong with it going over that hour block if there are important things to share. Perhaps for some of us this is the only time we get to spend with a large group of the paxlair people and we enjoy it no matter if its 30 minutes or an hour and 30 minutes.

I voted 1Hour 30Mins
What I think would work. 8:45-9pm - New people introductions 9-9:30pm Governor Information/ Minister Information (Also appointments at that time) 9:30-9:55 City Mayor Information 9:55 Start of announcements. No set stop time. But, for the people with limited time have all government information have a set time. That way people know they wont miss any government announcements. People may come and go as they wish. (Break down of the Mayor Reports- Dragons Watch 9:30-9:37 PaxLair City 9:37- 9:44 PaxOku City 9:44-9:51 Outpost 9:51-9:55 No mayor should hit over 7 minutes if they have all the information pre written and just copy/paste into UO. |

This was brought up years ago and discussed at much length. It is hard to keep people's attention past one hour. Oh, their bodies might still be there, although some are polite enough to make up some excuse to leave, but the bodies that are left behind are cold, mindless, and non-responsive. |

Hi, I just wanted to say I enjoyed your last meeting, Thanks again for the invite.
As for the length of your meetings, I really liked the fact that it was only a hour and you folks kept a real nice pace going for it. I'm not a huge fan of meetings, but yours was run very efficently and I admire that. In the event something big comes up I'm sure most folks won't mind running over the time limit a little, and you always have these great forums to further discuss stuff. Sorry, I didn't pay attention to the fact that there was after meeting activites, I just thought everyone was leaving. |

Kegan, it's always nice to have new people show up at the meetings and get involved with the community. It keeps the meetings fresh!
The Old Man does run a good meeting and keeps things moving along nicely. Over the years, we've found that one hour meetings seems to be best for keeping people's attention. If there is something big going on, they don't seem to mind if the meeting runs over one hour. One hour meetings are not set in stone, just a goal we strive for, most of the time. Welcome to the neighborhood! |

Lord Gareth's suggestions make sense and allows for flexibility. And yes the meetings are well run, so actually I rarely "wander off" mentally :-P
