UOForums Interviews Jeremy (UO Community Coordinator)

Jeremy took some time out to answer some questions our users sent her.

Here's the interview!...

1. What is your UO history, as in, have you played, and if so, for how long?
I’ve been playing since December ’97, on and off. I actually swore off UO and sold my account in ’01 or early ’02 – that lasted a good solid 8 months, then I got a new account and went right back in So I don’t have all my old rares or vet rewards, and I’m cranky about it, but I do have all the memories.
2. Hope this ist a strange question, but what are each of your genders? I keep seeing one or the other referred to as "she" and if I am to address you Id like to use use the proper pronoun
It’s not a strange question at all – it’s the internet, it can get awfully hard to tell I am, in fact, female. The masculine name is a long, involved, mostly boring story involving a girl named Jack and… the internet.

3. What are each of your draws to UO? What about the game, etc. do you like?
Well, there are a few things. I love the Ultima universe – I played most of the single-player games and they were really the first computer games that felt as rich as the big fat fantasy novels that line my bookshelves. When I realized that UO was a free pass to wander around one of my very favorite universes, doing whatever pleased me, I pretty much stopped sleeping for three years.

As the MMO industry has grown, I haven’t found a substitute – I have played quite a few MMOs (and worked on a bunch) but I’ve never found one that gives me the same feeling of depth and freedom – of really being a part of the world, and not just playing a game.
4. Any dislikes about the current state of the Ultima Union?
Elves. Yeah, sorry, folks, but… I don’t like elves.

Heh, more seriously, my biggest issue right now is the state of public documentation – and fixing that issue will keep me pleasantly occupied for quite a while. UO is a biiiiig game, people, with a lot of features – more than even I realized.
5. Which of you do I have to bribe to see more KR screenies??
[Oh, can I, Sanya? Please? Come on, we have to have one knocking around…]
6. What is your 'official' role with us in the UO Mythic Community?
I am the Community Coordinator. This means I am your first point of contact for just about anything other than billing and customer support issues, and I’m the first point of contact whenever anyone internally wonders what you’re thinking about. I read the forums, answer questions, pester the devs, update the website, occasionally get into two-hour debates with Draconi about obscure game systems (although that’s largely for entertainment ), write analysis about anything UO-related that upper management wonders about… lots of stuff. It’s a wild job, but I love it.
7. How do you 'see' us being able to communicate with you about ~ the good, the bad, and the ugly in our beloved UO game.

I couldn’t stop you if I tried Really, my job is about keeping the lines of communication open, in both directions – making sure you know what we’re up to, and finding out what you think about it. I will take this opportunity to plug the Feedback forms, too – forums are great, but the direct line to my ear is here. http://www.uoherald.com/feedback/index.php
8. I know the feedback,so far, has been very positive for you.I did notice one or two negative remarks which seemed to surprise you.I hope you have a thick layer of skin some where so those kind of remarks wont hit too hard?
I would be very surprised if y’all can find some names to call me that I haven’t been called before But in all honestly, the UO playerbase, however bitter in parts, has been very good about keeping it about the game and what actions are being taken, rather than sinking to the level of personal attacks. I am always, always interested in y’all’s opinions, however negative, about the game.
9. Do you play UO,and if so which shard?
I do still play, but I’d rather not say what shard. I try hard to keep my work life and my game life separate – it helps me cling to the last remaining shreds of my sanity.
10. What type of characters do you play and which are your favourites?
I like to hit things. I don’t like to fiddle about with spells or tactics or footwork, I just like to hit things. Hard.

Occasionally I like to make things (usually things to hit other things with), but mostly, I hit things.
11. How does it feel to fill the role left by The Great One, Binky?
Every community manager is different – we all have a different touch, different policies, different ideas. I try not to compare myself to previous CMs because, well, “That way lies madness and sweaty palms”.

I do have Britannian runes tattooed on my arm, though, so I think I measure up in that respect

Many thanks to Jeremy for answering our questions, we greatly appreciate it!

**smiles**

Nice read. Nice to see someone enjoying playing warriors, too.

**wonders if she likes pure warriors or just the hokey hybrids** hehe

Hand away from the elves! there are few communities of them. actually they was in UO even before ML strikes! long time before *nod nod* and we very enjoing it now when developers finally give as a tools to be ingame elves (not just RP elves) I invite all to see our elven village near Trinsic moongate in Europe shard - and let nobody say after that there are no place for elves in Sosaria!

Re: UOForums Interviews Jeremy (UO Community Coordinator)

I agrre great interview Jeremy good job! i do have a question er 2. What in the world are yall gonna do for thiefs? The usual answer would be, pffft they are the last things on our minds. Seeing how this isnt one of the easiest skills in the world to train. Those of us that have legendary thiefs are and have been for a cpl years patiently awaiting something. You can only run doom and tokuno so often before you can do them both almost entirely in yer sleep. It always seems to be about PvP.
Seconde question! What about a seconde house on our accts? For a small fee of course. I would DEFINATELY be willing to pay.
Last but not least if you havent moved on yet. What about magic resist? It needs to be put back the way it was pre AOS I dex fight alot just like you and it sux bad when you stand and swing and miss constantly while fighting a mage and he is blasting you to death in like 2 secs if he maxxed out on DCI and even worse if he has Parry. I was told to get my skills up, well unless u guys plan on offering a scroll that will take me higher than 120 Swordes-Tactics-Anatomy-Resist Spells and Parry then I cant do that!
