Crystal Rose took some time out to answer questions submitted by our staff and posters alike.

1) Are you the same Crystal Rose that was part of the Chesapeake community for so many years early in the game?

Answer: No, I have never played Chesapeake, although I do travel around a lot from shard to shard with Deal or No Deal UO Style as Vana Mana Rose *winks*.

2) What has been UO's staying power for you?

Answer: The people most of all. I have experienced many happy times within the walls of UO over the last 7 years. Some unhappy times as well but the good over rules the bad by far.

3) What shard do you play if not Chesapeake?

Answer: I have always played the Pacific Shard.

4) Do you remember the UO meetup at the Park Avenue Country Club in NYC circa 1999, hosted by Ian Stormbringer?

Answer: I didn’t attend that one but the 2 I have attended this year (Seattle and Orange California) were a blast! It’s a lot of fun meeting players in person. As well as the people I have contact with in forums.

5) What inspired you to be part of "Whispering Rose Radio"?

Answer: Sandman and I used to be with a different internet radio station that didn’t work out so well for either of us so we kicked off WRR last June. We had a great crew lined up from the very beginning which made it fairly easy to get it off of the ground.

6) How long have you been playing?

Answer: My room mate got me started playing UO a little over 7 years ago and there haven’t been many days I have missed getting ingame since.

7) What type of character do you like to play the most? PvP, PvE/PvM, RP, etc., and some details please.

Answer: If I had to pick one of the above, I would pick PvM. Although, I always have enjoyed the crafting and house decorating aspects of the game.

8) Are you part of any in-game communities? Guilds, councils, player towns, etc.

Answer: I am the guild leader of the NWK (Never Winter Knights). The guild was first started back when UO first came out by NK Jonas whos MS has since taken over his ability to use a mouse or type on a keyboard. He handed the guild over to me in 2003 with the agreement that I would keep it going. I also own and run the longest running auction house on the Pacific shard (Pacific Auction House). Again, like WRR…we have a great dedicated crew helping which has allowed us to continue weekly auctions for the past 4 years.

9) How did the name Crystal Rose and Whispering Rose Radio come about?

Answer: Trying to think of a new char name, I glanced up at a shelf that held the crystal rose that my son had bought me the previous Christmas. Thus, my Crystal Rose was born.
For Whispering Rose Radio, we took in suggestions from our starting crew before going on air for the first time. Then took a vote. We all wanted something reflecting Ultima Online.

10) What is the main goal (mission) of WRRad?

Answer: There are actually several answers to this question:
a. The main one is to help in bringing all of Sosaria closer together. We travel to many different shards hosting the Deal or No Deal UO Style every Saturday as well as Dungeon Boogie on Friday nights.
b. To allow our DJ’s to interact ingame with other players as they broadcast live on air. We have found that players enjoy hearing their name announced on air by the DJ’s as well as having their character and profile described.
c. Bringing new ingame developments and news to our listeners as soon as we get them.
d. Broadcasting player’s ingame events per requests of the public.
e. Playing recorded commercials advertising player’s events, vendor malls, guild meetings, etc.

11) Who decides programming and the hiring of your volunteer DJ's?

Answer: Lady Willow is our Senior Program Manager who is backed up by Kaiya, her assistant. Both work very hard to keep the DJ schedule as full as possible by hiring and managing the DJ’s Bearfoot is our Assistant General Manager. Wearing many hats within WRR, he also hires and does all the training to prepare them for broadcasting during their scheduled time.

12) Are there certain requirements when applying for a position?

Answer: To have the appropriate music in their personal libraries (no bad words, etc.) Be over the age of 18 (unless we have the permission from their parents). And just want to have fun! We want our DJ’s to enjoy what they are bringing forth to their listening audience.

13) Are submitted events to the WRR calendar also announced on the air by the different DJ's?

Answer: Generally, we won’t announce an event unless one of us are contacted directly. We have been known to scroll through the event calendars on forums for events to announce just as a heads up for our listeners. On the WRR website we have a special place where players can either submit their ingame events (to be put on their shard ‘shout box’, or they can submit an event that they want a DJ to attend and broadcast live on air.

14) I find the WRR Deal or No Deal UO Style a lot of fun, and a great way to spend time on other shards as a visitor, I am wondering how does WRR decide which shard to bring the event to?

Answer: DJ Sandman and Howie SandManDel have had many arguments as to which shard the event will be held on next. Sandman keeps an ongoing list of which shards we have been on in the past so we rotate.

15) Favorite Hobby?

Answer: Other then WRR…I would have to say working with stained glass. I have always liked working with intricate objects. Used to enjoy putting car models together.

16) Favorite Movie?

Answer: The one that has stuck in my mind for many years is Enemy Mine.

17) Favorite treat?

Answer: Besides Sandman? *grins* Peanut M & Ms.

18) Do you play any computer games at this time and if so which ones?

Answer: I am currently experimenting with Space Colony. It’s kind of like the Sims. I was in need of a non-internet game to play for the few times my internet goes down.

19) What was the very first computer game you played?

Answer: Leisure Suit Larry…what a little cutie! Hilarious series.

20) Which is your favorite season and why?

Answer: Summer in Seattle is perfect for me with all the greenry. I don’t care for the windy, cold, wet weather.

21) What is your favorite color?

Answer: Green

22) What is your motto?

Answer: Keep friends close, keep enemies closer.

23) What is your most treasured possession?

Answer: My crystal rose and a little glass seal that I bought for my mom when I was around 10 years old. It’s missing a leg now but she loved and cherished it as I will always do now that she isn’t with me any longer.

ps...everyone...special announcement!! ~daa ta la da ta Da ta da da~ Crystal Rose said yes to my role playing marriage proposal in Chesapeake's Bachelor -Bachelorette Ball, put on by Oni every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month last Saturday night and we are planning a huge wedding on Pacific on Thursday Feb. 14, 2008. All are welcome and from Feb 14th to Feb 17th there will be events going on many shards to celabrate....watch for the announcements for your chance to enjoy the fun.
