Re: UO guild listings

If the idea is to have a Guild of Chivalric Knights and not a guild of rangers/tamers/mages etc then i like the idea. There should maybe be a mage/cleric or two max as a spiritual influence maybe.

Also it would be nice if it was pulled together from the reminents of all the Knights that are left in the game with history.
I know Medric is still around as he still logs in, so maybe hes one.Elliot is another..and theres a few others that maybe entised.

Maybe this is one of those ideas that should be put on a shelf somewhere for later use

Re: UO guild listings

You know what?

Knightly types - get in game, start tryign to help defend Magincia and see what happens. There is shed loads of rp opportunity in Magincia at the moment. Loads of players gatherign there and DOING stuff not sitting on forums moaning about the poor state of UO.

Really

Its time to get back in game and TRY and get whatever moving - trust me it will be a refreshing change. We have a city to defend and if we fail what city lies next? Vesper? Trinsic?

Come on get in game and get beign Knightly!

Warriors work well in Magincia , my own Knightly character Decardo Imier spent many hours there alongside another Knight from the Shadow Order Gwalchmai. Cross healing (we set up macros to heal and cure each other ) and naming targets worked exceptionally well and proved a great deal of fun. Reminded me of my time in KT when we used to work in threes.

So if anyone of the Knightly disposition wants to team up there with myself and Gwalch give either of us a shout.

Re: UO guild listings

well said callum, but i can't play atm. i work till 7 and spend most evenings with my GF. but i am always keen to hear whats going on and from the replies on this thread there still seems interest.

sounds like the magincia invasion is good fun though! i'll see when i get a few hours to myself about gettnig on for a bit.

if we could shedule a gathering sometime to talk things through properly, i think that would be great. give us a chance to say our piece and start seeing if we can consolidate things properly. then we could all go to magincia and beat up some monsters

anyway, i'm just trying to poke some interest into people. i'm sure a good first step would be ot stimply stick tabbs and dec's knights together; if we can resolve IC issues and make it appealing to both parties. from there we can look to other knights and try to bring them into the fold.

to accomplish this my feelings are we need a generic knight guild, something basic, with a clear purpose. so if people can think along these lines and of any other ways of making a single guild appealing to all, or as many, knights as possible, then we can bring them together sometime and get this moving.

I so love reading your posts still Kaelith

But on this point and concept , again , I think we need to change the mind-set and break the traditions open and look at new processes.

I dont think the guild tag or stone is important anymore.

WHat is more important is to go and play a Knightly Character consistently and often as Decardo does [to use him as an example] and to be seen to do it and to draw others into what one is doing. You can do this from many of the warring guilds and as long as they accept "knightliness" then there isnt a problem.

Then.

Meet IC like the conclave - think of the Knights of the Round Table, I always saw them as a bunch of GMs in different guilds and NOT a single guild lead by King Arthur - and talk it through. Invite *anyone* to attend and then try and find common ground.

Hell you could do a week of this: intense talks, negotiations, speeches, adventures, a ball, poetry competition, whatever.

There is SO MUCH we can do if we work together and think it through. And just get on and do it.

It really is possible.

Re: UO guild listings

yar, i see your point callum.

but from what i remember when i left knights had an identity issue. there were still quite a few knights around but they were all very different and for the average punter i didn't think it looked like a attractive proffession to enter. you had airy fairy knights, fanatical knights, well mannered knights and many more varieties, which is all great, but it there were only ever 1 or 2 of each and they were all in different "orders" which stood for quite different things! which was why we could never get the conclave to work properly.

where as back in the day when you saw a dozen or a score of templars, all uniformed and well mannered knights it looked very cool! and new players were drawn to them because of the image and the character behind it. but as you got deeper into the RP you realised just how different all the knights in KT were!

i'm not saying we should create knight "drones" but by making an initial effort to bring some coherency to a dying character class it may deceive people into thinking there are more than there are and may well turn some heads and draw new blood looking to enter the community. instead of them going off into BoC or Grd.

as i see it atm, guilds like BoC and Grd always and still are doing well because of their image and well thought out guild structure, which encourages interaction and has clear out lines for all its members.

what you said about the conclave is what we've been trying to do for years.

i think my point about making a generic guild isn't the norm and hasn't been for years. old KT was generic but ever since then knight guilds have had some crazy quirk to them. and when i say KT were generic i don't mean that in a bad way! generic is the best way! it means people are more open to expand themselves instead of being trapped into a quirky guild with a defined "special-ness".

when it comes down to it you are right though. just got to get in game and be seen

but i guess my views on successful guilds are quite obvious:

a pro-active leadership
well thought out structure with clear progression paths
neutral but distinctive uniform
promotional path that encourages interaction to progress

it's basically the formula BoC and Grd seem to use, but i've seen it work several time to so much success and it seems to work every time!

-V- has been up and down like crazy ever since i've been in RP. the times when it's up you've got several people in the leadership all working to plan events and things and a clear rank system has been enforced and people within the guild given identities because of it. thus encouraging activity and growth.

BoC - i didn't think they'd last 3 months when they first appeared but Octiovus worked out a fantastically simple and well structure guild, brought a few good hands into the leadership and they flourished and were a big, active, FUN rp guild last i saw them.

Grd - seem deal, but much older.

so however right you are callum (and you are right hehe) i think an initial push to get a couple/few groups of knight together under a active leadership, with a clear purpose, well thought out structure (which is easy for people to understand!) and maybe a nice website would not only look better for people looking for guilds, but also invigorate the old knights into action. thus getting that activity. but it all has to start out with knights being active (which is why i meant you are right callum).

urg! i can't even keep track of my arguement.. does it make sense? i should write this stuff up in word before posting!

anyway, i've ranted like crazy and i don't even play UO >_<

I 100% agree ,totally,completely.!!!!

I am still prpepared to get on with it,but not solo anymore.

I contacted every single player/guild I could think of in the game, last time, who played any one remotely similar to a Knight,or had such members in their guilds.

My original message to them all still stands.

We only need to start with 5/6 players willing to meet REGULARLY ie at least one night a week, for 1-2 hrs at least.

Not logg in for 10 mins for show, then excuse oneself and logg out !!

If my memory served me right,we had the following

Myself
Elliot
Gwen
Decardo
Gorthyn
Bevier de Fendcolline

who showed fairly regularly.

The ones we need to get more motivated are

Medric
Athos
Kent Sarving
Devante

that would then give us a very impressive number of 10 ,which in my mind is no mean feat in these days of game play.

Hopefully ,others would be attracted to taking part once they saw a large group of Knights wading through 3ft of Dark Lords and Berserkers
