Re: UO guild listings

I hope all your hard work soon starts paying off Tabb. UO has seemed quiet for a while now and with so many getting side tracked gathering virtue armour and RL stuff etc it makes things seem almost dead. But I'm sure things will pick up again especially with the weather getting colder. Its also good to see Kaelith looking for some more fun in UO, lets hope its the start of many popping in again.

I think once you manage to establish a knightly guild like you've sketched out so far, and it becomes the most popular and likely guilds to join, you've got pretty far. I think people need to see actual proof that this guild is really the thing to go for.
I think these are very wise words. What I think needs to happen is someone with a lot of time and energy needs to form a well founded guild with a strong sense of itself and a good structure. Then politics can be used to entice other Knightly Orders into it's folds. Which, if the guild looks good and the GM has good relations with the other Knightly GMs, should happen.

But if what Tabbs is saying is true and these forums are anything to go by, there doesn't seem to be any interest in the RP community. You'd probably have to try and draw on new blood, backed up by a small core of old die-hards.

I like this. But I don't like Loyalists! That's not to say I wouldn't want to be one. It's cool being the bad guy once in a while

Re: UO guild listings

We did discuss taking the Shadow Order knights out of the SCT stone but i felt ( and others...the vote was split ) that the last thing that was needed was a watering down of a Guild to create yet another one.

If ever the KoTC formed as a proper guild i would be very interested in getting involved in some way which those concerned know about since the original idea of the conclave was first bashed out.

But as Tabbitha mentioned above there are too many who wont disband their current remains of Knightly Guilds to try something new.

I can totally understand the logic behind that .

KoTC seems like the holy grail for knightly orders! That one hope that might make them great again

If I come in game ever I'll try and hunt people down.

It's really interesting hearing from so many people again.

Re: UO guild listings

It might very well be that the dwindling player numbers may eventually force things liek this to become a reality whether the players like it or not.

My vision was always very similar to a CoY vision [but with high fantasy mixed in] - specific, dedicated guilds to cover each "type" of character.

- One guild of KNights
- One Guild of Thieves
- One guild of mercenaries
- One town guild of Yew Grds [for example]
- One guild of Srfs
- One guild of adventurers
- One guild of Necromancers
- One guild of Drow
- One guild of Vampires
etc etc

There would then follow a logical storytelling/scenario/off the cuff set of role play situations which would make *sense*

Half the reason we are in a pickle now is that most guilds are simply vehicles wiht no real drive or internal rules.

For example you can get a lowly peasant with better stats/template than grizzled old warriors or players make up reasons for their l337 pvp templates regardless of the sanity of doing so and in many cases GMs turn a blind eye or even possibly encourage it?

This just leads to confusion and lack of direction.

We could build a wonderful community with 10 guilds and 10 GMs willing to work together and I am still up for that and I wont give up either.

Re: UO guild listings

I also liked the idea of bringing all the RP community closer together but this would be asking massive changes from the community. Not something which i think will ever happen.

But if the RP towns were based between Cove-Vesper-Minoc i feel it would enocurage more incidental RP. I know from my own experiences that a lot of RP goes on around the lands that people are unaware of , and also many have said how far stretched out we all have been for a long time. So much so that people recall everywhere instead of walking/riding between places.

If the main City States were Cove-Vesper and Minoc people i feel would walk from place to place. At the very least i feel it would encourage more to do so.
But as i mentioned above it would mean those around Trinsic moving to Minoc. I am not sure they would wish to do so or if they have even considered such an idea.

I do strongly feel that consolidation is needed though for our community to move forward into the future.

I am still willing to throw everything I have at the idea ,one last time.

So do keep me in the loop if you find people more receptive to the idea.

Thats the sort of thing I was trying to sugegst in my post.I totally agree with this idea, and I know many not 'want' it,but as you rightly say,the current situation may demand it before too long.

yes it is a MASSIVE ask,but as cal points out, before long it may be the only option.

I like that idea,as the 3 places are along a line ,persay.

Cove ............Vesper...............Minoc,and a central road linking all three.

It would make for a more 'centralised' community and each town could give its guards specific tasks to do ,ie border patrols etc.

It would need a joint agreement that there would be no recall or gate travel during RP times .

Also, each 'towns' community, would travel to anothers town ,for events.

Guilds such as B^F [ just 1 example] could lie out along the roads each night, happy ooc in the knowledge that people would be around sooner ior later.

If one of the towns got attacked ,a runner coukld easily be sent to summon help from another town, making things all round much more realistic.

Trinsic really already have this going for them with the New paws area and elven community, all based nearby.

They may not feel the need to make such a drastic change and move to Minoc

It would be great if they did see fit to 'visit' Minoc regularly though ,[ a bit like when we all went to Britt] for diplomatic reasons.

I can only agree, and as we four have said for quite a while now, this IS the way forward now.

Re: UO guild listings

I remember the Minoc, Vesper, Cove idea being brought up years back and I still agree with it now. It would be a perfect RP area!

What's really holding the RP community back and always has is pride.

The suggestion about getting 10 good GMs to lead 10 well constructed guilds is fantastic, but I dno't think realistic. Although I think it's realistic for a new community to be developed with a group of GMs who work more closely together than previous communities. Even CORE was a hive if cliques and differing views.

This thread has got me excited and even though I wouldn't expect KOTC to ever be a big guild, I reckon it could be such a good guild for old skool RPers and new RPers alike. You only need a good core of 5 people and it would be worthwhile.
