I was up at the butt crack of dawn this morning trying to figure out why my MySql was not recognizing my Yahoo Geocities database. Geocities comes with a MySql database in the business web hosting packages, and the BF got one for his racing web site. I have never set up a database on my own before for my personal web sites. I only maintain them here at work, so this is a new experience for me. I eventually had to get my butt off to work after I was about to put my fist through my monitor in disgust.
Geocities comes with PHPMyAdmin, which I also have never used before and can not get past the initial step of setup, which is to download PHPMyAdmin into a directory on the web server. Yeah, did that, now what LOL. The instructions for this are retarded also and can not figure them out. I'm so frustrated. Everytime I try to find additional verbage on what the heck to do, it directs me to the PHPMyAdmin web site which does not help me either LOL!!! AAAHHH!!!
Can someone help?

Eww I don't know much about the computer... Gorefang kind of runs along the level that I can understand him so makes it alot easier for me to do things I need to do on him but other than that... I am lost... maybe Adam know or F'Nor... one other Kitaria I think said she worked with computers too? One of them might know...

Might be other Computer anatomy and physiologiest lurkers besides them too...

Sorry your Mechanical Critter is hard to understand... computers sometimes can not help it... if they are anything like me it takes alot to understand things so need extra help to get things down right... but I am sure this will be resolved soon ^_^

PHPMyAdmin should set up pretty simply. You already downloaded it and extracted it to the web server. Now you'll want to edit the config file - config.inc.php - with a text editor or Dreamweaver. You'll need the URL or IP address of your MySQL server and your username/password for the MySQL server. The top part of the config file will have a bunch of $cfg variables that you should edit to match your info for user, password, etc. The default config file should have documentation with examples and what each option means.

Once you've edited the config file, upload that back up to the web server (replacing the old one), and go to http://www.yoursite.com/whatever_fol...s_in/index.php

You should then be able to manipulate your database with phpmyadmin

Now... that's the manual way to do it, but Geocities lists another method on their web site: http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/geo/mysql/mysql-18.html
It looks like in their control panel, there is some way to just click a link that will automatically install phpmyadmin without you having to manually configure it. Not sure if that applies to your account or not, but worth a shot before you pull your hair out trying to manually configure it!
