Baby carseats

Finally had to start window shopping for baby furnitures. Damn didn't realize how hard it is just shopping for carseats and strollers. It's almost like buying a car. Sooo many to choose from. At least the stroller/car seat combos aren't too expensive.

The only problem is we have a 2-door Chevy Blazer. We need a carseat that's not too heavy or we'd be breaking our backs going in and out of the car. We can always test it out in our car before buying, but again there's too many of them...

And I can't seem to find a webite that could tell me what carseats would be perfect for our car. Anyone know of a website?

Re: Baby carseats

I'm not sure on a website, but I know we loved our Graco set. The base fits great in smaller backseats, and the baby carrier snaps in and out easily, without having to climb all the way in to do it. The stroller was also very sturdy, with rubberized swiveling wheels front and back, allowing for much better maneuverability. It's amazing how many times we found ourselves pushing the stroller across grassy fields, and the large wheels and swivels made it so much easier. I believe the set also included the playpen/changing station, but I could be wrong. It's been a couple years since we had it, but I will try to find a link or pic of it for reference.

Re: Baby carseats

You can check these out. They're supposed to be a little smaller than the normal ones.

I had a normal one.

Re: Baby carseats

Those graco compact ones look pretty good, I didn't even know they come in full size and compact.

There is a babies r us here, but they are just way overpriced. I don't know how they can get away with selling stuff at least $50 over the price at wal-mart and other stores.

LOL that's what my sis-in-law said!!

Unfortunately I have no experience in buying car seats or strollers, but my SIL did a LOT of reading in Consumer Reports before she bought hers.

Re: Baby carseats

Ooh thanks for the links Kit. They even have the Canadian ratings there. My brother left their carseat here that was brought over from the UK, we were gonna use it until we took the hospital tour and they told us about some guidelines for buying the carseats. They even discourage cross border shopping cause Canadian and US standards are different. Apparently Canada is more strict.

Heh... according to Transport Canada:

Quote:
The use of non-compliant child seats may not only jeopardize children’s safety and pose a serious danger to the public, but it may also result in repercussions such as:
  • Confiscation of the seat at the border or after it has entered Canada;
  • Fines and/or demerit point penalties;
  • Reduced or voided insurance coverage for injury or death; and
  • Possible criminal charges and/or civil litigation.

Re: Baby carseats

I really don't think Snitz used a stroller as much as most parents. After Monkey Butt outgrew his infant seat Snitz got him a recaro sports seat. Its pretty sweat and has lots of room. He also has a Graco in my car with a little cup and snack holder. He likes to stick his ice cream cones upside down it it......

Re: Baby carseats

I don't know anything about the new carseats (my youngest critter is 17) but I loved the Graco strollers! I have bought a few as baby shower gifts and gotten huge thanks after they used them, and fell in love with them too.

Re: Baby carseats

/agreed

Graco all the way. We had the child seat, the stroller that the seat can snap in to, and we are still using the Graco high chair for our youngest (just about 1)

Both my sons had to get out of the handle style carseats before they were 6 mos old as they exceeded the weight requirement. :S
