![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Trying to attract more participants This offer is no longer valid, new opportunities may be presented in the future. It is no secret that UOGuide has had some problems getting more people to update. In the site's lifetime, there have been about a half dozen "active" contributors. Right now there are really only 2-3 people, including me, who update the site infrequently. An important goal to keep the site current has also fallen behind. Kingdom Reborn would have almost nothing if it wasn't for Miss Echo's wonderful compilation of feature guides. Then there is the 10th Anniversary information which has not yet been added. It will only get worse with the Stygain Abyss looming ahead. So attracting more updaters is very important to keep UOGuide relevent and not become the next UO.com or UO Stratics. To that end, I have decided to somehow offer gold incentives. Hopefully some people will be able to offer some nice contributions if there is a reward. The big question is how such rewards will be offered. There are several variables to consider. The gold amount for instance. If it is 50,000 gold it won't be worth many people's time. But if it is 10 million gold then it might be too high, leaving little else for other possible pages. Then there is the quality of the page being submitted. If someone write one paragraph for 10 million gold, that would be quite the waste. But if someone submits 10,000 words and a dozen pictures for 1 million gold, don't they deserve a lot more for their effort? The only way to figure this out would be to jump in and do it. As a first test, I would like to offer a reward for publishing a complete guide to the 10th Anniversary. This includes the new drop items, the gift box, information about fireworks displays, some of the Japanese stuff, etc. The reward will range from 1 to 5 million gold depending on the quality of the work. 10th Anniversary Details Pages: 10th Anniversary, Virtue Armor Set, and any other necessary pages (one for each item, etc.) Scope: General overview, gift distribution, new item drop details, pages for all new items, Japanese distribution information Reward: Between 1 and 5 million gold depending on quality. Awarded on any normal production Western shard. This one will be done on a first come, first served basis. There really isn't very much work to be done here and someone could knock out a very good one in an hour or two if well organized. If this works out well then I will do other ones for stuff like Factions, Fishing, Treasure Hunting etc. Hopefully this will eventually encourage people to contribute on their own. I would like to hear feedback on this also if anyone has some. ![]() UOGuide -- The best Ultima Online reference, better than the T2A manual! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Trying to attract more participants I think UOGuide is a brilliant website, and a great contribution to the UO community. What I do think would be a good idea though is advertising. I see UOGuide is a free website but I dont see any banners or anything. I might be blind so bare with me! Seen as though the UO Website is extremly out of date, Could you not ask for a banner or some sort of link on their website, or even on stratics or here? Perhaps making many posts on different forums quite alot would be handy. In fact what about asking adam to help with some advertising I bet you could both come up with some ideas? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Trying to attract more participants Advertising is a good idea. But I want to be extremely careful how it is done. I don't like it (and other people probably) when a website spams up a forum or does other invasive types of free advertising. If someone asks a question on Stratics or anywhere and there is a UOGuide page to answer it, I will link them. I also see this happening more and more. That is the best type of advertsing I think. So the more content added to UOGuide, the more people will link to it. As for getting a linked on UO.com, that is pretty impossible. The whole reason the Fansite program was shut down was to disassociate with fansites. I have tossed some ideas at Adam and this forum is one of them. I also wanted to try and do some type of UO newsletter but he was not keen on that. If you have other ideas feel free to post them. ![]() UOGuide -- The best Ultima Online reference, better than the T2A manual!
