Asking for preferences to standardize creature info

I'm a new contributor...

I'm trying to get the creature pages on UOGuide filled in and am starting to realize that we should talk about standardization, so multiple contributors follow the same standards with filling in information.

The area where I have a question is in the case where a skill doesn't exist on a creature. For Example, if a creature is a non-caster, stratics will display a "-" in the value field for that skill. I was filling in "None" in those situations, but thought about how we enter "N/A" for the taming property on non-tameable creatures for their "Taming Dificulty"

So I got to thinking. Maybe the most consistant value to enter in a skill field where the creature can't have a given skill is to enter an "N/A".

What do you guys think?

Welcome to UO Forums Sarphus

I agree with Adam, seems like "N/A" would be the best answer.

Re: Asking for preferences to standardize creature info

I have not given much thought into this. Leaving a field blank would probably be the best method of indicating a lack of data. If it says N/A then it means Not Applicable.

Re: Asking for preferences to standardize creature info

thx for the warm welcome.

Ok, here's what I'm gonna do. I'm going to focus on the monsters that are currently on the UO website since the data there is pretty accurate. I'm about half way done building a spreadsheet that converts the stats as they appear on the playguide into valid tags for the wiki. I'll import as much as I can and then we can go back and touch things up as needed. This should minimize a lot of the mindless data entry, though.

While I'm at it, I'm going to make my cell for "barding difficulty" actually calculate the RANGE of bard difficulty, which will put us a step above stratics. stratics just posts some arbitrary bard difficulty, but in reality you can calculate this number based on the min/max of each stat and skill. Bard difficulty numbers on stratics have always been a pet pieve of mine.

At least that's my hope... I'll see what I can do.

Actually, I'm just setting up a spreadsheet so I can copy the data straight off their webpage and paste it right into my spreadsheet... BOOM! I have code to paste into the creature page

It works btw, but I'm having a problem getting my bard difficulty numbers to add up properly. Part of the problem is probably that I picked the betrayer as the first creature I chose to do. Bard difficulty on creatures with immunities, etc is a lot harder to calculate than on a normal one. I think I'll just leave bard difficulty empty on that one for now

If anyone can help me work out the bard difficulty more accurately, post here and I"ll check it out. Or you can just do the calculations and edit the page lol

It's proving to be a lot harder than expected to build a copy/paste spreadsheet. I have it down to where I can get the most annoying data in a couple of copy/pastes, so I'm going to go ahead and just go with that and we can revisit the pages to update them eventually.

I can still get creature fame/karma, resists, skills, base dmg and damage type fairly easily, so I'll just get that for now.

Re: Asking for preferences to standardize creature info

Ran into a little problem when it comes to displaying monster skills. There are creatures that have non-wrestling melee skills. EX. Orc Brutes have Mace Fighting and Wrestling. Some only have a weapon skill, but no wrestling, so if you disarm them they can't hit anything.

For now I'm just entering the values in the data and not worrying about it. It doesn't display on the page, though. The unfortunately problem is that you can't actually see those skills with the animal lore skill.
