Good test. Remember, you must also have stat room to gain. If not, you must have one stat marked down, and another stat to up.

I can say it must be unlocked in order to gain, beyond doubt (at least for me).

Stratics has clear input on this (and not outdated for once, except stat loss comment).

From the FAQ: (only stat questions are pasted in)

Q: "Will I gain stats when I use a skill marked ‘down’?"
A: "No."

Q: "Will I gain stats when I use a skill marked ‘stop’?"
A: "No."

Q: "Can I set a different configuration for each character?"
A: "Yes. Each character on each shard can have different skill management settings."

Q: "How do I gain stats when at the skill cap?"
A: "You can only gain stats from skills that are marked as "up". If you are at the skill cap, you will only gain stats from skills if you mark another skill as "down" (provided that you have points to atrophy in that skill) or if the skill is at Grandmaster (in this case, you do not need to mark any skills as "down".

Due to my multiple personalities, there is enough of me to share.

I was thinking that you would make a good mentor for her, because I could overwhelm her with info. That way I can keep showing you things, and she can then benefit when she is ready.

But WHAT a high for me when she actually got the tame!!!! :shocked: I could FEEL her bouncing in her chair over the internet. She was so excited over her new puppy, that I just HAD to see what her reaction would be when she tamed her first animal (let alone companion animal). And on her FIRST tame attempt.


Ally, as to the advance char.
The stats are a little odd (they gave the tamer highish dex for some reason), but that is easily rectified. I used an advance character for Thom, and was taming dragons first day.

Advance Tamer template:
85 Taming
85 Animal Lore
85 Veterinary
70 Magery
70 Meditation
80 Strength, 80 Intelligence, 55 Dexterity

Key is
1) Birds of brit library talisman. Can't beat it
2) ring/brace with 10 each taming (or total 20)
3) 110 taming power scroll

With these items, you will have 99% control chance (which is max) on any major pet except fire steed (which ain't worth the pixels used to create it, IMO, for the skill required to use it effectively). You can own a puppy and tame a hiryu in the first 30 minutes of life on the shard!!!

Start the character to advance with 50 peace and 50 music (or discord). For other tamer types, you can choose any two supporting skills.
Mage tamer
50 eval int
50 any other skill chiv ( this will be reduced as you gain in other skills, BUT until then , remove curse gives you the ability to remove mortal strike from pets, a major plus.)

Archer tamer
50 Archery
50 tactics
Lower magery to make skill room for chivalry after making the character.

These are NOT part of the advance character template, so you will be 100 skill points ahead of development.

Take about 4 hours to raise music to 80, at which point you can start area peace for simultaneous gains in music and peace. Take about 14 more hours to GM both. Suggest that you use Song Woven Spell Mantle to help out with gains, until you are at GM. While training with GM music, LOCK music so you can get faster peace gains.

Take about 8 hours to raise vet and animal lore by buying two horses, and having them attack each other (in fell, or if you are in guild). You can double up here, and set a UOA macro to use (item type) musical instrument, to raise music, at the same time you are healing pets.

In three days or less, you will have a useable tamer, with good skills.

Nice Thom! Now you're getting me all excited about making a tamer again. I was saving my last char spot in Atl for a tamer. Maybe I should try it out first in LA, with all these people to teach me

My honey was right. I've been making all these chars but I never finish training them

How much is an advance char token? It's getting a bit hard finding the 8th age box now in our area. I bought the last ones in the EB stores
