I have returned to UO after 5 years before I left I had a white wyrm a Mare and a Unicorn now that I'm bk I still have them but I can't get them to bond I have 93.3 with jewels but when I feed it says
( Your pet cannot bond w/ u untill ur taming abillity has risen). What is going on????

I know I need to get my taming, vet and Magery up, but what else should I raise and what can I turn down or drop to be a good Mage/ Tamer ???

Maybe you need just a tad more Taming skill? I'm not sure...best to check the Pet Control Calculator, but as Stratics is having issues right now, that might be difficult. Perhaps the requirements have changed a bit, but as a recent returning player myself, I am unsure. Maybe someone else around here has a link to it.

You need to jewel yourself higher, you are nowhere near the needed vet/lore levels for them to bond. I believe both are 100+ skill level for bonding, both in vet and lore.

You're taming and lore are a bit low for those creatures. If memory serves me right, Nightmares are 95.6 skill to tame, and runes are 101.4.

You need a minimum of these scores for them to bond.

Also I would be careful with the stingy templates, as they were a bit out of date when I read them. Lore is necessary now to control pets. You can no longer control pets with just the taming skill.

Suggestions:
Drop resist magic and wrestling. Resist magic only effects curses, mana vampires, and necro spells that I know of. Wrestling at 19.8, if you're a human, is useless because of JOAT. Its also not worth it for a tamer imho unless you're pvping.

Build your Honor virtue up to tame the bigger things.

For the mare and unicorn you need a minimum of 95.1 taming skill to bond the pet. White wyrms require 96.3. At best your control would be shaky, but you can check for yourself with Noxin's control calculator: http://noxins.net/flash/misc/controlcalc-

As for your template, you need to work around a minimum of GM taming, lore and vet to really get the best out of your character. I'd recommend 110 in all 3 as a good setup. You'd have good control and also the ability to vet a good amount of damage. After that, a basic mage tamer would also have magery and meditation if you cast a lot, or you could have eval instead so you could get the extra damage for your spells.

My main tamer has GM hiding and her remaining skill points are in stealth. based around taming skills at 110, the template would look something like:

110 taming
110 lore
110 vet
100 mage
100 eval int
100 hiding
70 stealth

I find it's a good template for staying alive, and in my experience it's a very easy template to use.

It really depends on what you want to do with your template. I am going 110 lore/tame/vet/magery/evalint/spellweaving and 60 med

With fc/fcr jewels and only at 2/4 I have no trouble staying alive.

Spellweaving is also really amazing for when you don't have a pet. The fey work wonders, as does natures fury. Plus being able to charm humanoids is nice. Eval int over 100 makes your bless more effective than most pets as well, and I have found constantly blessing your pets to do wonders on damage and such.

Also I'm not 100% sure, but I think necros can cast corpse skin on their tamed dragons, and it will increase the physical resist but decrease the fire/poison. This on Greater Dragons seems to be amazing on some fights, as not many things poison, and if they do it doesn't do much damage, and GD's have insane fire resist anyway. My friend does this and his GD ends up with a spankin 94% physical resist!

Looks like a got some work cut out for me . Better start taming lol. I did get a 110 power scroll. I m going to drop the wrestling and resist spell. I think I may add Peacemaking to the mix or spellweaving I cant decide. I have a friend that is helping me that does peace and it seems to work great. I really dont know anything about spellweaving (didnt have that when I played in past) . Where do I find a book ?

UOGuide has a very nice page on the quests to become a spellweaver, and includes info on training the skill. Your character will receive a spellbook and a few of the scrolls after you complete one of those quests. The remaining scrolls are either found as loot from ML monsters, or as a reward from other quests.Spellweaving - UOGuide
