How to start as Tamer

Ok trying out Tamer now.

Was wondering how should i start.

Str: ??
Dex: ??
Int: ??

Also how should my Str, Dex and Int look at maxed.

Magery 50
Animal Taming 50
??
??

I know i can train the other skills to about 40 so I guess starting with 50 in Both magery and Animal doesen`t seem so stupid.

And how do Animal Lore Help me out as a Tamer?

Plz help me out here so i can start Very soon.

Re: How to start as Tamer

What kind of tamer you going for?
My tamer used this.. And he did rather well..
Taming
Lore
Vet
Magery
Med
Peace
Music
But I was getting most of those to 110.. So was probably gonna lose the med..

Animal lore does two things...
1: Better vet heals...
2: Helps you tame/control creatures

Re: How to start as Tamer

Music goes with peacemaking, which can be helpful when you're trying to tame animals that go aggressive and attack you when you try to tame them.

Re: How to start as Tamer

Slight correction Jogge. If you feed a pet and stable it (or just keep it alive) for seven days and feed it again. It will bond with you. That means when it dies you can get it rezzed. Some pets are harder to control then others. A horse everyone has 100% chance of controlling it. While a dragon may not listen to tamer at all if the tamers' taming/lore skill are not high enough .

Guessing you want this character for PvM. Do you prefer any other skill to go with your taming? If it's magery you will want eval and meditation. As toad pointed out. Lore is used to calculate control chance and also how much you heal with a bandaid.

Re: How to start as Tamer

To give good advice on stats you need to decide what other skills you want. Technically you don't need dex or intel for taming. To decide how much of each to have will depend on your "other" skills

Re: How to start as Tamer

Thats a great start. You have room to scroll your skills up or if you decide you can add another one later. For stats I would recommend 100 Str. 110 Intel and 15 Dex. When you get a stat scroll I would boost Intel up some more.

Taming is a tough boring skill to raise. I would get my magery high enough that you can heal yourself and protect yourself some. Then work taming until you get it as high as you want. Lore will go up with taming so don't worry about it. If you know of any other tamers. Ask them if you can go along on hunts to practice your vet skills. That way you can get gains without losing a pet because of a failed bandaid . After you get done with taming I would then work magery. It seems to be easier to raise then taming that is why I would work it last

Re: How to start as Tamer

My tamer is:

120 Taming (still working on it, only at about 117 now)
120 Lore
120 Vet
115 Magery ( looking for 120 scroll)
120 Med
115 Eval (need a scroll again)

If you are going to be a tamer, one thing to remember is that your skill points in lore, taming, and vet = how many stable slots you get for animals. Each animal takes one stable slot, no matter how many control slots it takes when you have it out.

Magery is essential if you are going to tame your own pets, unless you plan on walking them back to a stable until they bond. For ridable pets it isn't such a big deal, but if you want a rune beetle or dragon, it's a hassle.

My tamer is also an elf for the extra mana boost, plus I can tame cu sidhes or the other elf-only things. You can stay human and just buy them tho, and wear the pads of the cu to ride one. My stats are:
105 str
120 int
25 dex

That's with a stat scroll. With those stats, if I decide not to use a pet, I can go and sling spells and almost never run out of mana.

Instead of using peace to tame, I do it the old fashioned way if I am going solo:
Beat the critter down until it is almost dead so it can't move as fast, then tame away. If I have to, stop and cast on it again until it's health is low again.

Also on animals that get hostile when you try and tame them, you can use honor on yourself.

Re: How to start as Tamer

Good advice from Adrianna....If you intend to tame your own pets though i would seriously consider a peace tamer...taming hostile pets such as white wyrms, rune beetles and the like is very difficult without peacing...if you've never played a tamer before...but you would have to sacrifice eval. or med. to pick up music and peacing... but like Adrianna..i still tame the old fashioned way as well......with my peace tamer i gave up eval. but it's a sacrifice either way..just have to get used to playing without which ever you give up...taming is difficult to train and time consuming but worth it in the end I think good luck
