Which pets capable of fighting are 1 control slot? I'd like to keep one in my stable for swap-out purposes when I get too many puppies.

Nothing worth only using 1 of.

But you could use a frenzied osterd or something like a hellcat.

I think that most tamers that are pupriders tend to have an Ethy or Charger of the Fallen for a backup mount. I know I do, anyway. :grin:

For those of us without 654654513 polar bears, or chargers of the fallen, I use a frenzied (Blueberry).

However, if you chose to use a 1 slot pet to do additional damage, I suggest that you create named attack macroes vice all kill. The fastest pet ( frenzied much faster than CU) will always attack first, thus soaking damage.

Second, peace can actually be an issue here. When peace is broken, there is no telling which pet will be attacked, so be on your toes.
