Cu Sidhe

In search of the proper pronunciation of "cu sidhe," (the elven/fairy dogs in Ilshenar), here's what I found:

The proper pronunciation (this has been mentioned before somewhere, but I couldn't find the link) is:

Coo Shee

(Since the "sidhe" part is the part I found hard to believe as "shee" - here ya go: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sidhe)

If we go with Celtic mythology, a cu sith is a legendary and supernatural hound, literally translated as "fairy dog." http://www.answers.com/topic/cu-sith

Similar tangent - the cat sidhe is a fairy cat (though folklore suggests the cat was not actually a fairy but a witch). http://www.answers.com/topic/cat-sidhe

When they were first introduced I always pronounced it "soo side" or a hyphenated "suicide." I was way off. Learned it's proper pronunciation a while ago, but still say "suicide" in my head. Bad habbits.

I've always known the pronunciation of them I think. Mainly as a result of a childhood steeped in too many fairy tale books and being much too inquisitive I think. It was only until I got on TS with my guild mates that I started calling it just "my dog." I'd say coo shee and everyone would go "wha?"
