Assistance on GL with Greater Dragon Taming?

As post states. It's my first day back in about 8-10 months[Prior I was back for 5-6 months after a good 8-9 years away], so I'm not all up to date on much of the changes, and all my old guildmates, and friends are no longer around.

It would be nice to get to know a good group of people for hunting/social gatherings, and those occasional rescues/body retrievals. I don't normally need them, and tend to rescue,- way more than I need to be rescued, but sometimes knowing someone is around gives me more guts to tame that nasty beast, or hunt that crazy spawn.

I asked and offered cash for even assistance at Brit bank, but only had one reply and we bartered, but alas I want to at least train my dragon if I do buy one, so I didn't get one. ...In the old days anyone asking for help/info would have tons of people trying to help, that they'd have to fight over who would help. I'd spend hours helping others. But then again back then we had more people and a city council in almost every worthwhile town. Nowadays I dont see that. Back 8 months or so ago, I noticed a lot of that too,-- People sticking to their own groups and a major lack of community. This is one reason UO may never make a population comeback,-no matter the updates/upgrades. -- But that's another issue, and things can change...

Anyway... Can anyone lend a hand with heal/invis while I tame? Or even sell me one? And it would be great to make a few new buddies for hunting parties and events.

Hope to protect Sosaria with many of you soon.

Re: Assistance on GL with Greater Dragon Taming?

Hi Rendarius, and welcome to the forums. I myself have been back for about a month after taking a 6+ year break. I am always willing to lend a hand with whatever you might need help with. My two main chrs are Jhinn (mage/tamer) and Dilligaf (warrior). If you ever see me by the bank or just running around, stop me and say hi. Also if you want, send me a pm and we can set up a time to try taming some GD's. I have yet to try it myself.

Re: Assistance on GL with Greater Dragon Taming?

Finding people to help or finding friends to group with is pretty hard, but its not impossible. Don't give up. Some people will help you. You might want to look for a nice guild also.

To tame GD's you may want to try working up your honor virtue to around Knight level, and you will be able to tame them, without help. This works great for me as sometimes I find myself on at times when even friends aren't on. Plus, finding a really nice dragon or other tame, and wanting to tame it then and there without having to run and get help makes honor VERY worth wild.

Also, with 2/4 FC/FCR and a little practice you can invis tame them yourself. I precast invis, run up to it, invis, cast invis again and start taming, then when the tame goes off or I get a little too low on health I invis/run off or continue taming. Warning, this only works in KR as far as I know. Sorry 2D users.

Regardless, I wish you the best of luck. I'm on Baja, or I would offer my help as well.

I do the honor trick on GL.

Add me to ICQ and if I'm ever on (wife permitting ) I'll give you a hand. It really is easier with the honor trick though.

Make sure you find a good dragon before you take the time to tame it though, they spawn with a very large range of stats.

If you run into Austin or Soarak, both of the W-R guild, I'll be happy to help. As has been mentioned, get your honor to follower level and you can pretty much tame the drag yourself, it's a piece of cake. Run in, invis, lore, if you like the drag, honor yourself, dismount, and start taming away. You won't believe what a piece of cake it is...beats peacing or beating them down to tame, and saves a whole lot of OOooOOoOoOOO's lol.

Re: Assistance on GL with Greater Dragon Taming?

Thanks for the useful tips and info folks.

I am a follower in Honor. I tried raising it with The Spynx and a pet earlier and would get the gain msg, but I'd stay stuck st the second circle in progress. Obviously due to my pet use...I'm thinking of hunting eaither rotting corpses [EV] or OgreLords?.. [EV] to raise honor... Any better suggestions for this?

I could do it as a follower only?? How long will peace last? and how much will it use up?? Because I doubt Ill tame it on the first or second...even third try...

My tamer's name is Dark Tranquillity, and I hope to run into you soon. I normally go to Skara bank, or Trinsic stable/tailor... old habits, but I'll have to try popping into Brit bank more often.

Re: Assistance on GL with Greater Dragon Taming?

What is your taming?

I raised my honor (before I switched to a mage/tamer template) on dark wisps in moonglow. They give GREAT gains as a tamer.

You should really have 110 taming to try and tame. I get off two tries in the time I am embracing honor, and I'm no where near knight.

Jhinn, if you plan on playing later, it would be great to get together and try taming one since you haven't tried yet either.

If you plan on beating one down, you will need at least two people to heal anything short of another gdragon, if you pick a good gdragon to tame.
