im trying to raise my taming i am currently at 89.2, but use jewles to get up to 115 to ride and control my cu side. i have been taming ridgebacks with jewls on and off also but gains are slow if any at all. is there a quicker way or am i doing something wrong?

try going to ice island and working the tames there. there are tons of attempts to make there and you can just keep circling it over and over

yeah slow. if your at 115 with jewels, i would say ki-rins are a good and safe bet. what's your lore at rodders?

It's really really slow, I'm still at it too. What works for me: Take of one piece of your jewelry, so you are around 100, then go to tokuno and tame gamans. They're non-hostile, so easy taming and if you take a mare with you to kill them after releasing, the mare will expierence some skill gains too.

Is there anything that is slower than taming? I have a GM tamer on one acct, but am trying to build one on my second acct (going to try to get rid of first acct, eventually... really, I am. I told my wife that at least...). The first tamer I have had for 8-9 years, it doesn't seem it took so long back then. Of course I was drunk for most of my UO sessions back then, so things are a bit hazey.
Has it changed that much?

hrmm Well, I would remember that taming and controlling pets are both influenced by the lore skill by 20%. As is the vet skill... Maybe buying a skill scroll to increase that may work if you haven't done that already. And keep your potential tames within 20 points - or + of your skill to maximize gains.

That being said... Ridgebacks require a taming level of 83.1 So this may be the reason your gains may seem super slow. Boost your gains by going more to the 115 taming range since your jeweled up to that. Gamans require taming only in the 60's. Ki-Rins are also safe and require taming of 95.1

Just keep taming... I find a good way to pass the time, and perhaps make myself feel better, is to donate to the zoo for points ~

Tamers are the most powerful PvM template in the game, so we're punished with slow gains. Years ago, I gave up and bought and advanced tamer. I gain discord (arguably the next hardest skill to raise) so much faster than taming that, after just a week of normal play, my real discord skill is 4.7 higher than my real taming skill after 5 years of normal play.

Nobody thrown poisoning into the ring! You can GM that in your stinkin' house! (been there, done that)
