I am training at 70 Lockpicking (after the satyr discords me), and am using a GM box for training. But according the guide i should be using a 75 skill tinkerbox.
So am thinking of getting a 75skill tinkerbox.

then you need to finder a tinker with 75 skill. because gm level tinker only makes gm level locked boxes.

My crafter has 82 tinkering. This would be ok too? I mean, it must be better for gains than my GM box atm.

Another option is to take a GM level tinker and get them discoed. The result will be a 72.0 level box. This is what I did when I was working lockpicking and it was very effective. There was really no difference between that and a 75.0 box. FWIW.

i just realized i need carpentry to make the wooden boxes. Why is everyone calling it tinkering boxes? Is tinker needed somehow?..

Yes. When making a box, two skills are checked. First carpentry, to make the box (or container), then a check is made on tinker skill to make it lockable.

The two levels dont NEED to match (you can have 30 carpentry and still make GM tinker boxes).

GMed my lockpicking. Took me 1,5hours to get from 96 to GM. Had a 88.2 skilled tinkerbox.

congrats, another tedious skill done.

unfortunately you will be underwhelmed with the items from the chests, though very, very rarely you get a keepable item.

Now you just need a steady supply of gm made lockpicks. Cause you are gonna break them on the dark wisp, paragon chests.
