Once you get to 90 or so, switch it to deathstrike, and you'll get all the way to 120 this way. It does take a while, don't get me wrong, but you'll see gains. Took me a week and a half of training to 120 ninjitsu, and this was like, 5-6 hours a days of training.

When does the skill gain check occur for Focus Attack? Is it upon casting or upon a successful strike?

I'm using my lame 6th char to train the skill and I don't have any melee skills on him. Trying to figure out if that's going to slow down my training.

I believe it's successful strikes.

I'm training between 105-110 (well, have been for months with GGS) and seem to only get gains on successful strikes when GGS's are due.

Quick update - I'm training Focus Attack using Mercenary's technique (no targeting on horse cycling every 1.5 seconds) and gaining even though I'm using my newbie dagger and have Fencing locked @ 0. At 72 now, so we know it works. Still not sure if it's slower than combining the cast with a successful weapon strike.

The death strike section of training IS based on successful strikes however. A main thing I will point out is that you can do it while blue and in trammel; just buy something like a rabbit from an animal vendor, and have it attack you - then keep death striking it. Although your blue to it, your still swinging at it, and although not damaging it, Ninjitsu doesnt care - it still gains you.

Another update - It does appear that striking the target increases the frequency of skill gain.
