Re: Is it beneficial to use a shield with bushido & parry?

I'd go with just a 1 handed weapon and a lot of EP, Pots give you more of an advantage than both Bushido AND using a shield.

bush is great with archery i would never use it to melee unless i wanted to be a pinyata

For to win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the acme of skill. To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill.

Re: Is it beneficial to use a shield with bushido & parry?

Maybe I should be asking this in the warrior forum?

is your chance to parry/hit better with parry/shield or parry/bushido? Anybody have the numbers for one vs. the other? Bushido obviously has other bonuses, like perfection & LS.

currently, I'm using a katana (I don't think it's a great katana) so I'm one handed for easy pot access. I'm using chiv too, so it's normally enemy of one, consecrate weapon, honor the enemy, lighting strike. Is that a pretty normal strategy? I don't feel like a pinata, but I'm only fighting earth ele's(Shame was the only rune I had on this character when I logged in, and I haven't come across any dungeon/spot runebooks), and they're dropping with two or 3 hits.

That's pretty much the MO.

As long as your leeching enough mana/killing fast enough to get perfection boost and keep up with mana consumption you're good to go.

Re: Is it beneficial to use a shield with bushido & parry?

I know ornate axes used to be real popular with folks running vamp/sammys, of course you need high SSI and ML on the axe. I believe I read on one of the forums that with bushido & parry it is best to use a two-handed weapon, I think you actually lose some of your advantage with the shield (but I'm not posative, it's been awhile so that could be out-dated...).

Question Re: Is it beneficial to use a shield with bushido & parry?

Ive gotten a little confused with what ive read in this post, can someone help me out a bit?

What would my possibilities be to block in the following situations then?
1- 120bush+120parry (one handed sword+shield)
2- 120bush+120 parry (two weapons (those double wielding things one in each hand))
3- 120bush+120parry (two handed weapon (only one weapon))
4- 0bush+120parry (one handed sword+shield)
5- 120bush+0parry (two weapons (those double wielding things one in each hand))
6- 120bush+0parry (two handed weapon (only one weapon))

Also I have doubts about something that was mentioned about parrying skill needed to cast bushido spells, is that true? How does tactics effect bushido spells?

Re: Is it beneficial to use a shield with bushido & parry?

This is from stratics so I'll make the disclaimer that it may be out-dated: parrying calculator

No you don't need parry to cast bushido spells, but most of the bushido spells do compliment parrying...cept lighting strike

Havok

Re: Is it beneficial to use a shield with bushido & parry?

I used the calculator and set 120parry, 120bushido, and 125 dex... and got these results:

Chance of blocking with a shield: 5%
Chance of blocking with a 1-handed weapon: 35%
Chance of blocking with a 2-handed weapon: 40%

Does that mean I will have the same chances to block with a two handed weapon than with a sword+shield?
5%shield + 35%one_handed_weapon = 40%... just like i would with 2hander?
Am I interpreting the results of the calculator correctly?

Re: Is it beneficial to use a shield with bushido & parry?

NO! You will block 5% of the time with a weapon and a shield.

You will block 35% of the time with a one handed weap and no shield.

You will block 40% of the time with a two handed weapon.

When using bush and parry together, YOU DO NOT WANT TO USE A SHIELD. Let me make that clear...YOU DO NOT WANT TO USE A SHIELD! Using a shield KILLS your ability to parry.

Re: Is it beneficial to use a shield with bushido & parry?

Do double weilding weapons (those that you hold 2, one in each hand) count the same as a two handed handed weapon?

What two handed arty (or double wield arty) do you recomend?

(im a swordsman)
