Been doing a bit of mining of late and wondered if there was a any correlation to the gems and the ore types that I have been mining.


I seldom see gems at all in my Malas valley (all ore types are available) so recently I have taken to mining in town. No not Cove or Delucia.. but those little spots that look like rocky dirt. Today's adventure was a bit more unusual than the rest but generally here is what I do...

I started mining at about 9:50 this morning in Yew...
at 9:53 I found a fire ruby in a dull copper vein that had been prospected.
9:57 turquoise in a non prospected shadow vein. (I like Shadow)
10:13 blackrock in a prospected dull copper vein.
10:18 dark sapphire in a prospected vein of shadow.
10:31 blackrock... and ele and I got too excited to write down what I was mining because I DIED instantly. Poor Ciao... he died too.
I think it was shadow.. and not prospected.

I am not some mining freak that loves to mine... which is part of why I am mining in towns... you might run into someone to talk to.. or chop logs for.. or something.... an hour's about my limit but I have (since being in town) been picking up 5 or so gems in that hour... daily.

Oh! and when I say it was prospected.... whatever I put in my pack is what I listed. Also.. I didn't only mine dull and shadow.. I mine all ore types in Yew they were the only ones that gave me anything.

The gems are totally random. We mine inside town, and we know the spots by heart for the coloured ore, but the gems are always random.

Gems are random, but it seems that Elves have a better chance to find them.

I thought I'd read somewhere that once a gem spawned in a certain vein for you, it would always spawn in that vein (though not necessarily every TIME you mine that vein). Is that not true?

I personally have not had that much luck. I've found gems around the same areas before, but I really believe that it was more a matter of pure luck rather than finding the same vein again.

I believe Trinity is correct. The gems are entirely random. No such thing as a vein for them

I've received 2 different gems from the same vein in consecutive attempts, there is no correlation.

errr..... this neither confirms nor denies that I have a miner.

Thank you all! I still don't find anything in the high end ore veins maybe its just Miss Connie... she's older than she appears.. but then again... aren't we all?
