Smithing guide

I have a question. I have a +25% smithing bonus talisman. Now, will that effect my gains? I'm currently at 86.0 smithing, meaning I have just under a 60% chance to make a plate gorget, now if I put that talisman on, will it decrease my gains since I know have a higher chance of making the plate gorget?

Yes, talismans help a LOT. I don't know how the formula works (yes, you WOULD think that it would decrease your gains because you have a higher chance to make the item) but it really does work to increase your gains.

That does seem a bit backwards to me, but oh well, I'll be using the talisman now! Thanks for the help Kylana!

I think the reason the talisman helps is because at the higher levels, you only gain on successes. Maybe? Something like that? Speculating.

Exactly, and it won't decrease you chance for a gain because you have a better chance to make an item.

For gains purposes, it checks against what your skill allows (say without talisman you have a 50% chance to make) you to make to check for gains (even though your talisman takes you to 75%). Giving you a better chance for gains.

Would an ASH(ancient smith hammer) help your gains for the same reason a good tally should?

Not really. It actually increases your skill and it uses charges when ever you have it equipped

I'm 90% sure you can equip it, get the skill bonus, and use a different tool in your pack so you don't burn uses.

Still not good for skill gain purposes, but for enhancing/creating exceptionals(for BOD purposes) it is beneficial.

They changed that a while back Dip. Now it uses charges from the ASH AND the tool/runic
