Are people using "gatherers" ?

Ok, so I have this question...
Since it is kinda clumsy having both mining and smithing etc on your crafter, if you want to be able to craft as many items as possible on him, what is the most effective way of gathering Ingots and Boards and so on?
Hunting with a PVM char for gold and buy them from vendors etc, or mining/chopping them yourself ?
Again, I suppose it's also all about having fun, just that, sometimes it will get a little old mining day out day in...

I mine and chop On the fletcher I have lumberjacking and on the smith I have mining. 45 music is stored on a soulstone in case I need to make musical instruments.

Re: Are people using "gatherers" ?

I also do all my own gathering. From sand for the alchemist and rocks for the mason to all the lumber and ore. For the longest time it was mostly because I was broke. All of my characters are roleplayed. Constance has no qualms reminding people about their armor or telling others just what she thinks about their unladylike behaviour or how they oughtn't be so puffed up over their latest kill after all they couldn't have done it without armor or weapons, right?

She's not just a mule she's a very interesting character.

I use gatherers for target practise. Eventually they get tired of dying and get their main and/or friends to come avenge them. The more, the merrier in Fel.

Re: Are people using "gatherers" ?

I use a merchant setup, to maximize skills I can sell goods for. One is a dedicated gatherer. Any decent PvM template can be used to gather leather and bones. So all you need is mining and lumberjack. You can also turn this into an effective spined and reg leather gatherer.
Crafter 1
120 smith
120 tailor
100 tinker
100 fletch
100 carp
40 chiv (use luna lance and you can do sacred journey)
30 music (2 +15 music jewels to craft instruments)

(Option B, be a HUMAN crafter, rely on recall scroll for transport. Raise / stone over mining to get to 70 (90 if vet account) for better smelting.

Crafter 2
100 Alchemy
100 Inscription
100 Poisoning
100 Cooking
120 MED
110+ Mage (optional, you REALLY only need to be able to cast up to 8th lvl spells)
60 focus
10 necro (raise high enough to cast lich form for the +13 MR, then lower)

(This requires some soul stones. Stone over tink when you start. GM mage and med. raise necro. GM inscription. Once that is done, stone med. Raise all other skills (GM tinker still on). Once all skills done, swap out tinker and med.

Gatherer
100 Mining (+5 mining gloves are a must)
100 LJ (Lady M's hatchet rocks)
80 hide

(optional)
100 Swords
100 Chiv
100 Tactics
100 bushido
