Calculating costs
Just wanted to share a little tip on figuring out how much it costs to craft something. I have some cost calculators up on UOCraft.com but this is a down-n-dirty way to get a roundabout answer.
In your crafting menu, most skills show your % chance of success. Let's use my GM alchemist and Greater Conflagration potions as an example. GConflag costs 10 grave dust each (for a success). Grave dusts cost 3gp each. According to the skill menu, I have an 81% chance of successfully grinding this potion. So if I attempt to grind it 100 times, I'll come out with 81 potions. How many times would I have to attempt this potion to end up with 100 potions? 100/.81 = 123.4 times (so, let's say 124). 124 x 10 grave dust each x 3gp per grave dust = 3,720gp plus the cost of a potion keg (I figure 600gp) = 4,320 Now - when you fail, you don't actually use up a whole 10 grave dust. You only lose a portion of your resources. So this is a bit of an over-estimate. By this math, I should use up 1,240 grave dusts to grind a keg. In reality, I use about 1,100. I've also got an alchemy talisman that's giving me some higher success rates. But for most skills, you'll get a pretty accurate cost basis. Just take 100 and divide by the decimal form of your success rate to determine how much it costs to make 100 of your item, and go from there. ![]()
