![]() | Re: Apprentice Assassin Looking for pointers Ahhh yes the assassin.. In fantasy and ideally this type of character sounds so great!! However, in the world of UO this may not be the case ;/ I have tried to make an assassin as well. In fact, my skill set was almost identical to yours except that instead of healing I had ninjitsu. Eventually though I changed it from ninjitsu to healing and then took off stealth and hiding altogether. The assassin's most powerful ability is surprise. At least that's what should be the foremost advantage for an assassin, but that just isn't the case with the game mechanics of UO. Not to discourage you of course - by all means build the character and play him out and see what works best for you! (I guess this is just a little warning - at least from my experience playing an assassin heh) The main problem here though is that after the first hit + unstealth it is pretty much a normal 1v1 battle. Also, what weapon(s) do you plan on using? With your skill setup you are limited by your weapon special moves. Since your weapon is your only source of offence you will want to be able to have the highest hit chance so you will definiately want to have 120 fencing. If you wear mage armor or leather armor you can leave your stealth at 80 and never fail. As well, with poisoning you can leave it at 80, but will never be able to hit lethal poison 100% of the time (which really is fine). That leaves 40 points to be put elsewhere...probably tactics and anatomy for more damage. The best case scenario is that you surprise your target and catch him/her off balance and kill him/her as fast as possible with them not knowing what happened. You really need high damage output for this to be effective otherwise they will run or be in a good position to retaliate (thankfully shadowstrike is AWESOME). In the spirit of PKing - I would choose delicate targets that you know ~100% you will be able to kill. An easy example of this would be stealthing at a champ spawn and waiting until the spawn gets tougher while stalking a target and waiting until the spawn has brought them down to 50% of their life or so and then rush in for the kill and shadowstrike in the blink of an eye! Good luck to you, let me know how things turn out in the end ![]() ![]() -Ferbal |

![]() | Re: Apprentice Assassin Looking for pointers Everything you said is basically how im looking at it. I use to play UO back when BTR first came out. Back then beeing a assassin seemed harder, you could only gain from poisoning weapons, not by actually infecting. And you didnt have shadowstrike. And in fact i am a very patience strategist. I like to see if i can kill my foe before even attempting, thankfully stealth will help with that since i can pick out my targets without them really revealing me, unless someone randomly detects me, then you know... I also found out that you dont need tactics to infect even though when you click infect it says you need 70 in weapons and tactics for this move to work. So is tactics worth using in my template? And aswell my weapon of choice is the Assassin's Spike (Of course) I think my biggest challenge is trying to get the assassin's armor... Which brings me to the question, whats really good Assassin equipment? ![]() Legends: Yinn - Aspiring Assassin Yang - Full Paladin Last edited by Yinn; 12th June 2008 at 12:21 AM. |

![]() | Re: Apprentice Assassin Looking for pointers Well, first off - you don't need tactics for infectious strike OR shadowstrike since they both use secondary skills (poisoning and stealth, respectively). If you don't have tactics though, I would pickup something that offers more offense - maybe ninjitsu. You really want to kill your target as fast as you can since you are an assassin and not some cookie cutter PK looking for 1v1. You are looking for a straight kill without any retaliation. Why? Because if you don't kill them in the few seconds you catch them off guard then they already have 200 skill points ahead of you since hiding/stealth is really out of the question unless you are running away. You could keep tactics though since tactics adds to damage. It may be best to test out the strengths and weaknesses of having tactics and replacing it with another skill and decide what ends up being the best choice for your play style. In terms of armor/equipment - if you plan on being in situations where you *know* you will always win a battle 100% of the time then I would focus more on properties and less resists. But, if they get away and are able to hit you - then you are pretty much at a loss ;/ Assassin's Spike is great I'd go with something that has high/max SSI, DI, Hit Lighting (or a variant), HCI (no particular order). Other mods are always a plus too!![]() -Ferbal |
