I run a Chiv/Necr/Bush Archer.

I have just enough necro to get Vamp form.

If you are not going to run Spirit Speak, then necro isn't worth it for damage. I would go Chiv with most all weapon skills.

For PvM, the ABC (archery, bushido, chivalry) is probably as solid a template as you can find, requiring little "specialized" equipment and dealing about as much damage as you can put together. I would go with something like this:

120 Archery
120 Bushido
100 Tactics
100 Anatomy
100 Resist
90 Healing
Rest in Chivalry

Obviously, this can be tweaked based on your total skill points available and funds. Using EoO, Consecrate, Divine Fury, Lightning Strike, Confidence, Close Wounds, Cleanse by Fire and Remove Curse, you should be set against whatever baddies you come up against. Not that a necro archer is not a worthwhile template, but you can deal a whole lot of damage with an ABC template for less investment. JMO.

so without the bushido is chiv stil better than necro/ss?

It's not a question of "as good as", just different. Each will have their strengths and weaknesses. I run a PvE archer that is:

120 Archery
120 Tactics
120 Anatomy
120 Healing
120 Resist
75 Chiv
45 Med

He gets along very well in everything he does. My guildie runs a similar template but uses necro/ss in place of the chiv (and runs his other skills at lower levels). His archer also does well. It will be easier to put together a good chiv/archer suit (and cheaper) than for a necro due to the lrc requirement of the necro (unless you're going to run with regs).

What would the benefit of a Necro archer be? Chiv you get EoO and Conc Weap, not to mention all the healing stuff.

Necro you get life drain and curse weapon?

Plus strangle, evil omen, blood oath an several others. Necro dexxers are pretty sweet, and have their place. I run a necro macer myself (you were standing next to him last night lol) , but the suits are a pain to put together and NOT cheap...heck, I run with regs and arcane robe/boots 'cause I still haven't found all the pieces I need.

Oh, I agree on the dexxer. The Archer isn't supposed to get hit that often though.

Also, I've found that evil omen isn't exactly worth the casting time. At least not in my experience. Blood oath is useless if you aren't taking damage also.

Pain Spike and Strangle could have their uses to slow the creature down and do periodic damage. I just think that the extra damage that bush/chiv adds for an archer is insane compared to what necro/ss can add.

I have never made a necro archer, or a necro dexxer. I've got a necro/mage and a chiv/archer chiv/swords char. So, I am honestly curious here, not trying to argue.

Oh no, I understand completely. I agree, for an archer, I would go Chiv or Chiv/Bush all the way.

Poison strike is sweet in spawns, as is wither. Blood oath is nice in spawn fights, as you can hit the casters with it as well as any dexxers. I wonder if it works on greater drags lol. Strangle the same, as this will definately slow down casters. I agree that a necro template is much better suited to a mace/fencing/swords dexxer than an archer by far. Spirit speak is also nice as an additional healing method, but, again, I think it works better coupled with bush on a dexxer and the poster doesn't want bush. Personally, I could see where the necro archer might be a very viable template in pvp, not so much in pvm. Overall holmedog, I concur that the Chiv archer would be a much better choice. I think it will be more effective and much cheaper to put together.

I run a bush/archer. Skills is anat/arch/bush/focus/healing/tact Honor the target and in about 4 shots i am hitting lesser hiryus for 90+ damage.
