Question Bow Selection

I am just looking for a little clarification, to date, I mainly pve and just use slayer bows for most of my hunting. It seems to work ok but I have to do a lot of switching in and out to make sure I have the right weapon equipped which is kind of a pain. I have been looking at new bows for sale but I am kinda poor in the gold department so it makes it a little tougher.

What I was wondering is:

1. Based on my pve playing is the slayer set up the best way to go? Or should I get a good player crafted bow that has good DI, SSI and a few other items? Is the DI from a slayer worth it, in an of itself?

2. Depending on the answer of #1 above I have been doing some shopping, I have found a few bows but not being slayers I am a little confused on which is better.

Bow 1
hit magic arrow 40%
hit stamina leech 48%
hit chance increase 25%
swing speed increase 30%
damage increase 40%
lower requirements 20%
physical damage 100%
weapon damage 13 - 17
weapon speed 4s
range 10
durability 249 / 249

Bow 2
hit stamina leech 40%
hit mana leech 34%
hit lower defense 38%
swing speed increase 35%
damage increase 44%
lower requirements 20%
physical damage 100%
weapon damage 12 - 16
weapon speed 4s
range 10
durability 235 / 236

X Bow 3
velocity 36%
ash
hit chance increase 19%
swing speed increase 25%
damage increase 40%
lower requirements 20%
physical damage 100%
weapon damage 18 - 22
weapon speed 4.5s
range 8
durability 45 / 45

I am not sure if these will make a good pve weapon or if they are more for pvp. Based on my limited knowledge and experience I thought Bow 2 would be the best because of the higher SSI and DI. What do you think?

Two other questions that have been bugging me in general:

1. What is PvM?

2. Someone on my server has this bow for sale at 45mil. It looks like a pvp bow to me but again I am not sure about those kin of things. Is it really worth that much? Just knowing someone has an item possibly worth 45mil makes me feel really poor.

hit lightning 40%
hit chance increase 13%
swing speed increase 40%
damage increase 40%
lower requirements 20%
physical damage 50%
cold damage 20%
poison damage 30%
weapon damage 13 - 17
weapon speed 4s
range 10
durability 173 / 247

Re: Bow Selection

I always went with super slayers when possible, and the ones I had usually always had two or more of the following (in order of my preference):

ML (mandatory)
SSI
HLD
HCI
DI

I usually carried multiple bows (around 4) at any given time. Slayers for the area I planned to hunt, plus non-slayers with the same properties above in the same order of preference (and maybe an added hit spell). Non-slayer bows do NOT have to be player crafted, but those can be nice with more potential properties than looted ones, just find one that works.

Of the bows you listed, I'd go with bow #2 also.

PvM = PvE just uses a different word, same thing though. M = Monster

I'd never spend that much on a bow, but that's because I'm cheap. It is a nice PvP bow though, not worth the money even to most PvP Archers.

Re: Bow Selection

Another vote for bow number two, the others are too slow. The last bow is grossly overpriced...it's nice, but not THAT nice. Now if it also had HLD at about 40% I'd be all over it, even at that price, but as it is? No way.

Re: Bow Selection

Thanks for the great response. I do have one follow up question. I thought "super-slayer" weapons were weapons that were slayers for more than one monster.

i.e. "repond slayer" is a super slayer where "ogre slayer" is just a plain ol slayer.

I had this totally wrong didn't I. Because based on what you said there are slayers out there that have other modifiers on them like DI, SSI etc and those are what you call "super". I can't say I have ever really seen them, but Ido not shop in Luna, I only use what I loot.

I have gotten alot of plain ol' slayers, but maybe I just don't kill tough enough stuff to get "super" ones.

Re: Bow Selection

No, you were right about super slayers and regular slayers.

The other properties are just that, properties.

*checks in*
Great info. DiP can herd sheep with the best too!

I vote for Bow 2.

As to your questions on which is best, it really depends on what class of monster you PvE. If you are doing middle monsters (regular ones), then slayer is the way to go.
If you are doing peerless, then you can usually get by without a slayer as long as you honor the opponent and hit alot (and have over 50 bushido). The honor bonus will equal the slayer bonus at step 20.
