Just check the town crier here and on f4g regular, tells you what's going on and where and only takes a moment to do. If you don’t like randomly logging in and hoping to find something just go to planned events. There is something on most night's.

Re: Sosaria, The Roleplay Land Takeover Game!

well i prefer to just log on and do random spontaneous things and that's how i generally played all my UO life. but doing that take times to do anything worthwhile. only planned events i ever liked were the battles and training, as peaceful planned stuff was always a bit weird. i like the non-pvp, but only in the form of meetings and councils and talk of war and a bit of tavern time. festivals, markets and the like were never my cup of tea..

but i'll take a look. thanks henry

Casual logging in and hanging in places can be fruitful, but today it's rare to find anything interesting like that, because of the small playerbase. I'd suggest what Henry did. There are a lot of planned events, almost every evening that you can look for on the forums and attend. During weekends, you'll usually be spoiled for choice with the events.

Re: Sosaria, The Roleplay Land Takeover Game!

I'm rarely here on weekends, but I'll keep it in mind

if something like what this thread is suggesting was in place I think it could potentially mean that casual players like me could take a look at the current territory held by our respective guilds and look to making spontaneous activities based around. any one here played world war 2 online?

players in that would take time to set up defences and infastructure if they knew a town was due to fall, or they'd bring up reinforcements from rear towns to the front if they knew they'd win. so in RP sense the defence scenario is easily done, but patrols and a like and skirmishes into territory you know to be the enemies could be a lot of fun.

i spose a big thing that might be needed is a REASON for it. why would guilds be interested in gathering territory when they know that their home town is essentially safely theres? what benefit would it give a guild if it owned more land? would people be willing to base an IG economy based on territory? or a very basic "guild strength" system.

I'm not sure how it would work or what it would do, but maybe by assigning an arbitary figure to each territory which represents strategic value, resources etc. The more points a guild has the more IG influence it might have with the powers that be?

So an evil guild that could acquire sufficient power might be able to influence things more.

but essentially it would be an arbitary figure and guilds don't have to bother with it, but for town/army guilds it might help to judge whose the boss.

Re: Sosaria, The Roleplay Land Takeover Game!

I often log in on a whim and very rarely turn up for planned events.

When i do log in i tend to create me own stuff which sometime runs on when i'm not around. Then again admittedly it is easier when ye have some sort of influence over a group before ye even log in anyway.

Much more prefer spontaneous RP and letting it grow at its own pace to planning anything,BUT more so these days than afew yeatrs back i've noticed many tend to go for planned stuff more sadly.

You and me both old friend, wait until the new expansion goes live and then try a comeback. If UO cannot pull a decent crowd of RPers then, then it never will and aint worth the subscription anymore, just as it aint really at present.

Yes I agree raul.

Well i did pop on last night and i have an urge to have a peek at the community atm, but as i thought would happen i ended up sitting in the tavern for almost an hour and didn't know where to go. but i couldn't expect much more as my play hours are generally closer to 10-11 pm, sometimes 9 30.

i've got ideas though and i'm still getting my character sorted, so we'll see

Re: Sosaria, The Roleplay Land Takeover Game!

The Grd had an award ceremony last night. I didn't count but I think we had about 30 members attending. That's pretty good, considering the current state of the playerbase. So I have to agree. The players are out there, but they don't pop in and play unless there's something they deem worthy of their time (and rightly so!).

Its nice how everyone chats about these things for weeks on end...

This "normal player" you talk about, when do they actually get to experience these wonderous wars talked about in the forums?

And all this talk about the basic player relying on the GMs, in -V- we have loads of people on most of the time, and are constantly doing things! But its way more fun when the whole RP community is involved.

-V- and KH were at a tourny 15 + ,plus as Stormcrow posted Grd had an event at which there were around 30.

So theres 45 players at just 2 events, which isnt too shabby in the current climate.

As said there is always some thing happening in UO,its just knowing, what and when/where.

The days of going to the bank in Trinsic, and seeing copious amounts of folk 'hanging' around the bank, are long gone, presently.

Heck, only 2 years back,KH could walk into Trinsic, and it was a pre guarantee,we would get roleplay, galore, with no pre planning etc.

During that time numerous 'villains/enemies' would stroll along, furthering the experience.

If that was exhausted too quickly, one could then go to any of the other 'hotspots' in Trinsic and rinse and repeat.

By the time a good few hours had passed, one felt suitably 'served' bu UO,and as most players logged in preparation for rl the next morning,it was usual, several of us would gather by West Gate, managing to pass another hour or so,with great fun.

I was a young turcopole back then in KT when the war between Strongholt and Beaufort [ then Templewood] raged, and it was SO exciting to be a part of all that.

There was nothing more exciting than 'waking' up in Templewood, and to 'see' 5/6 different guilds lined up, preparing to attack us.

Those are the memories that keep folk like Paladis/Raul/callum/Kealith /Twoie and myself going.

Of course nowadays, with so many gone .how we find the same interaction has changed.

Now we have to pre plan almost just meeting up at the bank with anyone

It doesnt mean we cant still have FUN though.

I think the above idea for taking over towns is the way to go atm, BUT as was already said, until folk are prepared to take IC consequences,it will just not work.

Twothumb is the only 'leader' of a town I have known, who is prepared to do that.

Had a lot of activity around a plot where he lost control of Vesper and his wife got kicked out also

So lets get our heads together and do some thing ,although I know from a post Hanse made , there IS some thing in the pipeline,so best check with your GM's/AGM's before planning anything

Re: Sosaria, The Roleplay Land Takeover Game!

Ultima has its share of problems (the shrinking player base being a big one in my eyes) but Ill play UO anyday over newer games like WoW or EQ. Those games are fun for a bit but get really dull after a short while. Games like WoW are great eye candy, but I found the "Roleplay" hard to stomache. You can't even communicate with the opposing faction! They have almost completely static world environments as well. Once you max out your level/skills all thats left to do is hack away at the same old enemies over and over because the entire game system revolves around combat.

*Where's my customizable house!?
*Where are my piles of useless items like horse dung and demon bone armor!?
*Where are the hordes of creatures that invade the capital city and tear people (veterans and noobers alike) to shreds!?

I plan on playing UO 'till the bitter end, even if that means my character is the last surviving Britannian in Sosaria...
