Re: Drow Race

The aim of the Drowish race as a whole seems to be conflicting with that of humans. They live in strange underground cities for the most part, and when they come up their attitude and deeds seem to brand them all as 'evil' to the citizen on the ground. This is why they've become perceived as evil.

Although it is a little late for F^L, if players wanted to avoid the stigma and misconceptions OOC and IC with being a drow, they could simply play a dark elf and build up their own lore.

Re: Drow Race

The term, evil, I used to describe Drow, was not that they are evil persay,
but E V I L ,in the sense you describe above Vierna.

I have rolepayed a Drow for a number of years now,but I havent had the opportunity to be in a decent drow guild, that wasnt full of gankers or non CY [ word]

My Drow left 2 guilds because of that.

Anyhooo F^L are evil * nods*

My Drow knows *ouch*

I had never experienced Drow anywhere other than UO
I purposefully stayed away drom D&D or Drizzit based sites though

Might give the book you mention a read,I rather like the sound of it .

Cool Re: Drow Race

Most of my knowledge about the Drow come reading the S.A. Salvatore books, which i have most in hardback.

Re: Drow Race

To Octi

The whole concept of Drow is that it is the antithesis of what is accepted as human morals, values etc. It is a matriarchal society and the female is both stronger and slightly bigger in size to the male. Where humans have a set of morals, Drow do not. So it is this aspect that brings, I suppose, the definition of evil. In some human cultures female offspring are regarded as valueless and a burden, whereas it is reversed for Drow. A mother can have as many daughters as she wants, but only two sons. Third born sons are sacrificed to Lloth within moments of their birth. In comparison to the most fanatical of human religious fundamentalists, I guess the priestesses of Lloth make them look like pussycats. I think on reflection, when you look at Drow from a human perspective, yes they are “evil”

I think the real misconception is that Drow cannot interact with other races. They can and will in furtherance of their own selfish objectives. We in F^L are well aware of Cove, Vesper and Yews attitude towards us and are perfectly happy with it. I think I can safely say my members like playing Drow, but as you say if you cannot stand the heat, re-invent yourself as a Dark Elf.

To Tabbitha

First thanks for the welcome.

Yes Vierna is a cold, black-hearted b*tch and I love playing her because, thankfully, there is none of her in me. May be one day you can have a Drow in F^L and see if it suits your playing style and enjoyment, better than the previous guilds.

As for the “War of the Spider Queen” series, as I mentioned previously, some of the plots are a little contrived but some of the characterisations are very good. Let your imagination drift a little on what goes unsaid and you will have an insight into what a Drow is really like.

Re: Drow Race

Those books are worth reading simply because of Pharaun the drow mage Great books all, except a little dissappointed with the last book. But yes, they are a good way to get into the mindset of the drow. Oh oh, and while we're on the topic..can people please stop calling them drows in plural form? It's drow, pure and simple, plural or singular. Drop the "S"

Re: Drow Race

Just that some people say,
"There are lots of drows over there!"
When it should be "There are lots of drow over there"
Just always been one of my minor annoyances when playing UO *grins*

Actually it should be "There are a lot of Drow over there!"

A lot in this case being singular not plural. And Drow being plural or singular.
