Re: Central Meeting Point
I really like the idea of an arguing parliament!
Would be a good way to have IG relations sorted, like have someone announcing they are declaring war, or invading someone etc ![]() It puts all that IC negotiation into an RP situation! Which would also call for GMs and Guild Organisers to plan events! Could also be a good IG way to publisize events as well! Great first contribution |

Re: Central Meeting Point
"A neutral council is the best joke so far this year. But a gathering once a month to discuss various matters would actually not be such a bad idea."
Such things have already been in existance [admittedly not in an "official" capacity] and have had some fabulous role play at them. Sadly only a few guilds [mostly the older more established guilds] showed an interest in these type of "talky" things. And of course this is what the Shadowcourt does anyway ![]() |

Re: Central Meeting Point
Apologies for a lengthy reply and a little 'off topic'
The North have had many such meetings in past months. The problem is they are usually only 'fun' for the attending leaders, and hold little interaction for the other guild members attending. What we need is active players with fresh ideas to get some thing going for the lower ranks left outside a meeting just hanging around. I can't count how many times I have been at such meetings and had feed back from not just my own members later, as to ' it was boring' 'there was nothing for us to do' ' I/we just wasted X amount of time doing nothing.' 'we just stood around like lemons doing nothing ' My thoughts are usually, well that was down to you outside . I can recall two occasions when at this type of scenario Vesper attended two meeting . 1 was in Cove [BOC] 1 at Strongholt [ A^K ] Usually all the leaders go ' inside' the building ,and two guards from host guild are left outside. The visiting 'guild members' are also usually left outside. Now in Cove, the banter between those outside ended in a brawl, which brought all the guilds together eventually in a pvp encounter.[ not always a good plan ] At A^K's building,I saw a great hours 'verbal' interaction, between those outside with each guild trying to score points over each other and disrespecting each other. The point is When the playerbase realises that just meeting with ONE other person in game is a roleplay situation and it is what they put into that mix as to how good the experience is ,then maybe folk will enjoy what they do more . ![]() I LOVE meetings where there is controversy between different leaders, and always have a laugh ooc when I am in a meeting where Twothumb and Irvyn are .Its never 'dull'. I could however write a lengthy list of 'meetings/lectures ' that have been set up by many different guilds, and been open for anyone to attend. The sad fact is only a handful usually turn up to them. Many say some thing is a good idea but rarely take part. SO Oyst, never apologize for being here only x amount of days. New blood is what we need to keep us all motivated You may be suggesting 'old ideas' but that doesnt mean they cant be done . Recently we had two events known as ' Moots' I will look for the links and pics and send you a PM . You would of enjoyed them as they are very much what you are speaking of. However,I have learnt by experience to not 'ask for feedback' on ideas on a forum anymore as LOTS of folk say 'YAY wicked idea ,Ill be there ' ,and then on the night its a disaster. All I can suggest is the following.
Ideally if its a leaders meeting that is where your work would end.It would then be up to those attending to roleplay it out. If it was a market meeting though obviously you would have a lot more organising etc to do. Main thing is DONT be put off if anything is poorly attended. I have been in the past but have learnt to just shrug it off and move onto the next thing ![]() I had better shush now as I can hear at least callum's groans of another one of Tabbs 'long winded posts' *grins*. Oyst if you ever want any help/ideas anytime feel free to I send me a PM on here and I will be happy to chat with you . Oh and welcome to UOForums and UO Tabbitha

Re: Central Meeting Point
Many thanks for the reply there Tabbitha makes me feel at home here!
I joined up with -V- last night and experienced my first training session with them which i really enjoyed. Others characters can be quite intimidating or maybe im just getting carried away! Anyway prehaps which can create some kind of quest(?) within the game where all guilds can participate. Infact that gives me an idea, ill be in contact Tabbitha! |

Re: Central Meeting Point
I always wanted the Knights council to be the place where they hold meetings for all leaders of the land and discuss issues and then while the leaders talk.. the members have friendly jousts and other things to keep them busy.
Why the knights? Becuse they aint sided on either the rebel or the royalist side and therefor should be neutral (yes yes dont bring up small points that they aint but just for the argument lets say they are ).Thats how i see a big gathering of such things being possible and it shouldnt be every month. .but every 2nd month sounds more possible. and SAME area all the time.. so KT KH or whatever guild that got npc buildings in a area can have houses prepared for these things (i can always hope cant i).

Re: Central Meeting Point
Possibly, you could do an open house where you decide on a matter, and have people wishing to participate in the debate sign up on beforehand. That way you wouldn't have dozens of people yelling over eachother to get heard. I'm still a bit scpetic to Twothumbs idea, as it won't include "normal members" in these discussions. A type of house could do this. But I may have read you wrong, Twothumb, so I'd love to hear more about it!

Re: Central Meeting Point
The Knights council was formed to essentially be a neutral governing body beyond the power of the city states and the regents or whoever rules these days.. we just never had enough knights to really pull it off. if you can actually get the knights together then maybe they'll acquire some strengtht once again. but who knows? got to keep trying i guess

Re: Central Meeting Point
Any meet/moot/whatever should be on neutral ground. Theres plenty of places outside the so called 'loop' of RP guilds that could be used.
As Tabbs said (in a long winded way (hell if Callumf's gonna be nice i best be the one to groan *winks*)) people outside the meeting itself need something to do aswell as its a good idea to have some kind of influencial people outside to mix things up abit.

There are plenty of KH/KT buildings around for this ,and I agree unless an urgent reason crops up,,meetings every 2 mths is a good idea. Quote:
YES any meeting labelled 'council' etc,has a ring of formality about it ,and players will know beforehand, that they will more than likely be excluded from it. HOWEVER.as opposed to 'council leaders' meetings A TOWN meeting should/could include every one from THAT town. A Market Traders meeting should/could include traders from THAT town. If your 'town' is by a river ,you can have Fishers meetings / dockworkers meetings. Why do meetings only ever have to be held by 'leaders' ? If your a guard ,think back to the strikes the Unions called in Britain years ago,[ type 'Union strikes in Britain' to Google ] . Organise a strike till x condition gets improved.? Low pay Bad working conditions Environmental health issues. Long hours have existed throughout the ages. Theres nothing to stop guards moaning outside a meeting about the conditions ![]() Just because IC you cant be in the 'main meeting ',doesnt stop anyone organising some thing on the spot. Or have duels while your waiting ? Winner buys the ales, some thing like that . Just please stop saying the word 'exclusion' and think 'INCLUSION' ![]() I guarantee I could arrange to meet up with any number of you on any given night, even the quitest ,and within half an hour,we would be in a roleplay situation, which involveds other players and would NOT be pvp

Re: Central Meeting Point
I still would like to see one Knightly body...ideally what we saw with the idea of the Knights of the Codex (KoTC) being the cental body and having small priories around the land with each having its own twist on things. But that would require all the current 'Knightly' bodies to give up being what they are atm and forming one body.
I looked into in the past of forming a Knightly Alliance between KoV, KT and the Knights of the Dutchy. KoV and KT formed an alliance but the Dutchy Paladins at the time were unwilling to split away from the Dutchy and join the Alliance. I like the idea of the Conclave in that it has representatives from all sides of the land who share the common wisdom of freedom and a will to follow a Chivalric Code of some degree. The teachings of the various assembled guilds brings a lot of variation to the Council Chambers. From the regimentalness of KH and KT who bring the teachings of the Virtues with their Monastic ways, to the Knights of the mysterious Shadow Order who seem more concerned with unnatural goings on and the appararition of Dark powers. Then we have members from the Brittanians and the Dutchy who support the Crown. Its a place where anybody can come and raise a concern with the Council and request some kind of action to be taken. That person can be anyone from a common serf to a land Baron etc. It would be nice if there were more members so a mobilised force could be put into the field to affect say the outcome of a battle by sideing with one faction who they believe is fighting for a just cause. Anyway its a good platform to continue slowly building things from which will grow if it has the support of all those concerned. |
