I admire your optimism Callum i really do, but ever heard the expression 'flogging a dead horse'? I mean come on even the hardcore never say die UOers must see whats happening now. Christ Cal, Paladis, Tabbitha and Twoey have more or less given up on it. Perhaps its time we (and you guys) went elsewhere and had a go at rebuilding our community in another of the new generation MMO's?

There still a bulk of the RP community left and people may return as they have done in the past

I dont think Tabbitha and Twothumb have given up - but thats more up to them - they are on sabbatical and will both return.

Paladis has been disengaged from UO [by his own admission] for a long time and the concept of Kaldor just wasn't something other GMs/Players wanted to go along with. And an invading force that was never going to be allowed to invade or take over ... well Raul we both know that argument.

Cal ... her UO life was Kaldor with that gone she felt she had nowhere left to go.

As to moving to a new MMO - that woudl just transplant the same problems we have/had in UO elsewhere and frankly into an inferior role playing environment. The reason why uo-rp is shrinking is because of the same reasons its always had:

Players cant agree ooc and players are tied down by guild affiliation

Can you imagine trying to get horde and alliance to wear no purple items in WoW and fight using only greens? Imagine banning Warlocks from using Fear? Or mages from using polymorph?

No it wont work.

What will work really is just enjoying the game of UO for what it is.

Everyone has to change their current mind-set and look for opportunities to work together and just do it.

As I keep saying - there is shed loads of rp opportunities with this Magincian invasion - just a shame most people arent taking advantage of it.

He is the unibomber.. One time agent on 20 greater explos.. run into a bunch of people and set off 10 of them- to someone without armor it does about 90dmg / pot.

Thing is PvE and even sometimes RP, is superior in other games now Callum. Why play in dated 2d or seriously dodgy 3d when you can play in the beauty of Middle Earth, Star Wars, Everquest 2 or even Warcraft now. There are also oodles of people to interact with and you dont have to be in a special group or know the right people in other games to get RP. Hell in Middle Earth you just wander into the Prancing Pony and its there right infront of you (all the time too).

You can try to lure people back all you like matey, but even you know thats this is UO's darkest days now. The fabled 3d client is a failure and looks well..awful and if any of the future releases are as good as they look. Then im afraid its bye bye for ole UO i think.

Raul I think we agree on most of what you have said there.

I have tried WoW, SWG, Guild Wars and wanted oh so much to be drawn in by them. And truth be told they offer a massive diversion and a massive change of pace and a real opportunity for improved fun.

The thing is that WoW has a pvp system which makes the sort of stuff happening in UO impossible or at least hard.

WoW also has total ooc concepts like battlegrounds which frankly is just toon stupidity.

SWG doesnt have the right *feel* to it nor does GW.

I think UO is in a terrible mess:

- the new client is no real upgrade on UO2d
- the community is stagnant and decaying
- players are leaving

The future looks very bleak.

But havign said ALL that it is still the best medium for pure role play. It just is. Its almost undefinable but you know what I mean Raul.
