The most boring day of Ultima ever?

Well I've been training my primary crafter on and off for a few days and, since I had a day off work today (fancied a 4 day weekend with it being a bank holiday on Monday), I decided that I may as well finish my crafter since the Arms Lore changes have made that a skill worth having at 100...

So, in approximately:
12 hours
8000 ingots

I've gained:
1.2 Smithing
14.5 Arms Lore

....

....

Huzzah - what a boring fkn skill Arms Lore is to train! I think I might have entirely lost my sanity had I not macroed up and left a large plastic shark leaning on the maco keys... I wasn't unattended macroing I hasten to add, I was sitting in front of my PC playing my guitar (my fingers are sore now, haven't played that much in ages)

Re: The most boring day of Ultima ever?

That really is a spectacularly irritating pace of training. Its still one of my solemn hopes that training is made a smidgeon easier for people who aren't scripting based on the fact that I point-blank can't be arsed to train anything because of how ridiculously long it takes, and how ridiculously dull it is to do it by hand. Last thing I trained was Ninjitsu - which was basically several days of me death striking a rabbit. How pants is that?

When you think about it more people use scripts the harder training is, and that it would be too much to make it so that you don't have to train. There's got to be a better balance point than where UO is now, surely?

Re: The most boring day of Ultima ever?

I just use the in-game macroes... granted they can be silly like:
Ctrl + Ctrl --> Use Skill: Arms Lore --> Target Last

Then just leave a plastic shark on the Ctrl key ... or, if you're naugty, install UO Loop ... just don't leave your PC unnattended as that can get you jail time from the GMs.

Most of the skills aren't THAT bad to train (those that I've trained anyway) the worst I've done, in order of how much I hated training them:

1: Arms Lore - by far the most boring and it seems to take forever
2: Inscription - med med med
3: Taming (technically I gave up at about 90-ish when I realised I hated taming)
4: poisoning - click, click, scritch scritch scritch, click, click, scritch scritch scritch... with a bag full of daggers
5: healing - ended up locking it at 90 and thinking "that'll do"

I don't mind doing any of the combat skills though I've never tried to get Chiv above about 80 and I suspect ninjitsu, bushido, necro and spellweaving are all a bit tedious but I've never done them (tried them on TCs but never trained them).

Tailoring and smithing aren't bad - just time consuming or expensive getting the resources - although Smithing is less resource hungry now that assassin spikes or circlets can get you to 120, I just wish there was a way to smelt the items with less clicks (I suppose there is UOA).

The biggest problem really is finding the time to dedicate to training.

I constantly struggle with gaining resisting spells. Whether there is an half decent way of training it that i'm not aware of.. or if it is just a bugger to get up.. I don't no?

Re: The most boring day of Ultima ever?

I've been training spiritspeak on my dexxer now for a week! I gain once every hour, its horribly dull!

I imagine poison is going to be pretty awful as well :/

But dont you feel that great sense of accomplishment by completeing a character? I love it, then again i do really enjoy training chars!

Re: The most boring day of Ultima ever?

I always found spiritspeak to be a pretty quick skill to gain. Should train it on a mage and soulstone it to a dexer though - goes a damn sight faster.

Yeah it's bugged at the moment. Apparently there will be a patch next week or something that will fix it.
