![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Militia accompanies Lord Twothumb to Covian talks The report starts out with a somewhat larger written title of... Covetous Talks The Militia was gathered at Town Hall, and most of them looking quite curious and alert. Was it something I'd approve of, such as keeping an eye out for assassins against our Lord, or something less appreciable like wondering what outfit the Lord would be wearing today? I didn't know, but at least they had their eyes open. The Lord rode out of the Town Hall's courtyard, a pleasing sight for the Militiaman as he was both in good health and well dressed for the day, sating both my imagined Militiamen's hopes. The Militia assembled, Lord Twothumb saluted, we set out along the western road towards Covetown. When we arrived, there were but a few Covians milling around their barracks picking their teeth and discussing day to day matters I imagine. They seemed reasonably welcoming, albeit dubious about the row of Vesper's finest behind them. I figure its the Chaos shields, they have a habit of making Avatarian church-goers squirm on some level beneath the skin. At the very least they know we loathe their corrupt and arrogant Church's methods and ideology. ![]() The Covian Captain Hoagie seemed to object to the Lord speaking with that warmonger overlord of theirs, Octiovus. After some time though, their Baron finally gathered the scruples to face the Lord. Along with his arrival, Covian guards seemingly started to crawl out of every hole in their run-down little hamlet. With their added guardsmen, the Covians started to get less welcoming, and more insulting - much to the encouragement of my own Militiamen. It is good to see pride in their country has not been worn down by the impact of the Covians turning on us and trying to call us the traitors. They know the truth, and are proud to stand for it in the name of Freedom. ![]() The Covians, warmongers through and through did little but throw petty insults towards me and my men while our Lord's discussed, but proudly I looked back to see no disdain, no overt objection. There were simply smirks, a few chuckles. They were shrugging it off for now, their hatred for the way Covians had bought into their own propaganda would be shown if those Covians made this about more than words. Ultimately, our two Baron's conversation was largely broken and their Baron shifted uneasily back behind his men, Lord Twothumb standing proud atop his steed right where he was. The Baron gave the order to "leave", and I agreed that we should "portal home" - and so the Militiamen, starting with Samsca opened fire on the Covians. Their shock was evident, but such is the price paid for thinking up insults instead of plotting over who to dispose of first. Hidden Covians leapt out from their barracks, and our soldiers clashed at last. I personally made sure that Overlord Octiovus didn't go far, and the rest of the battle was history. The dust settled, and it was time for victorious Vesparians to go home. Once back home, it was realised that one of our own, Alexandra, hadn't been with us. One of us had last seen him locking horns with some Covian away from the ir Barracks. The few surviving Covians must have gotten the better of her. We ourselves had a reasonable few survivors to send in to make sure she got back home safely - leaving a man behind to just-whipped Covians for their petty revenge was of little appeal to us. By nature I don't appreciate taking hostages or forcing peoples hands, or indeed having to harm simple civilians, especially bar folk. This, however, was a case of one of our soldiers being captured. There was no need for niceties, we strode back into Covetown, grabbed a barmaid who was passing by and chained her up. Samsca held her chains in one hand, and prodded the business end of his crossbow into her back, ready to fire. Some of the Covians wailed of honour, others to take themselves instead of the barmaid. This only encouraged us, however - we knew this girl was a pillar of their community by the many showing willingness to trade places with her. After some lies from the Covians about not having her, and Samsca bringing his crossbow from the barmaids back to her temple, Alexandra was finally brought out. As soon as Alex's chains were set loose me, Samsca and Gantoris laid into the Covians. Escaflowne quickly dragged Alexandra east and away from them, then returned to the rest of us, still engaged with the Covians. Some of them from the looks could have run from the court of Yew to the docks of Trinsic without breaking sweat, it seemed, but all of them fell soon enough to the might of Vesparian skirmishing methods. In retrospect, the negotiations were a failure. But the Covians more and more come to know that they are not welcome in Vesper, they are not safe hiding behind Trinsicians, and they will not be safe in their own territory so long as they continue to try and oppress and insult other free cities without mercy, or care for the advantage they deign to the Royalists. Signed, Captain Hanse Davion
