For everyone who wondered, I'm still around... or so I hope

I moved to a really nice place. Apartment building, built last year, brand new, new kitchen, new laundry machine and equipment, even has a fireplace, 15 minutes from the city center, suburbean area with couple of appartment buildings and lots of family homes, supermarket in front of the door, tramstation 2 blocks away ...and no internet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(imagine 20 pages filled with exclamation marks)

There is NO ADSL...apparently they don't have space for more cables. I guess what they tried to tell me is that they have no bandwidth or just no wiring in the area. dunno.

There is also NO CABLE!! apparently their cable wiring is too old in the area.

I'm gonna check if I can get internet via mobile phone. It costs a bit more than DSL and is much slower. YOUCH. On the positive side there's no time and download limit. So I'll just get one of those UMTS cards for my notebook to use as modem lol. This is so backwards...and forward at the same time - cuz I'm surfing using a mobile phone - but slow lol

Anyway, If that doesn't work out I'm back to using A ****** 56k MODEM!!!! BECAUSE I LIVE IN A 3RD WORLD COUNTRY WITH THE HIGHEST LIVING STANDARD IN THE WORLD. AND IT IS CALLED NORWAY!!! ermm /rant off

On that note... *kicks Twoey in the shin* You're from Scandinavia! What is wrong with the internet? I thought this was internet heaven?! *sob*

Hehe, should always check the connections in the area before moving there really. You just got suckered in by an array of shiny kitchen gizmo's ^__^

Without an internet con you have less people to say you have mad kitchen twlz to, so its a loss no?

I live in Norway, although in the southern part, in Fredrikstad. It all depends on where you live: If you live in Oslo or anywhere in the east (Østlandet) you're almost guaranteed internet connection.

this is why I didn't bother to check in the first place because I assumed (yeah yeah I know assuming is bad), that in Oslo you'd get either DSL or cable anywhere.

Hang on... there's no ADSL in Oslo? I'm moving there next Summer, I better start planning!

only advice I can give you, don't live in a suburb. I live near Lysaker, which is still part of Oslo and quite densely populated with smaller appartment blocks and family homes.

don't bother checking with telenor or UPC either. Canal Digital may be different. Anyway, both Telenor and UPC told me that there DEFINITELY is internet available where I live when I ordered. UPC sent me a modem already before they discovered their mistake. Telenor sent me my password, my telenor email address, etc before they discovered their mistake.
Oh and a few days ago UPC sent me a bill which I'm not gonna pay lol.

UPCs excuse was that the cabeling is too old for internet. I can get cable TV though.
Telenor's excuse was more cryptic. They don't have enough cables. what?!? I guess it's either the same as with UPC or they lack the bandwidth. The lady I got hold of on the phone couldn't explain it much better. Nor could she tell me if everyone else in the area is stuck without internet just like me. Dunno.

So....good luck!!! and ask potential landlords in advance what's up with internet at their place.

p.s. now I have a G3 mobile connection with NetCom which has decent speed. Except latency is high, so no UO PvP for me, and I better stay away from the bigger critters as well :/
